There has been exactly seven 1-0 games in MLB this year, and the Reds have been involved in four of them.

There have been over 1,000 MLB regular season games already played this season.

Keep trying.

The amount of times you're able to get a hit vs not will never be outdated. The weight of the statistic has dropped, but average very much matters.

Plus, if the whole premise of this discussion is fan appeal, no one buys a ticket to see a guy work a count to draw a walk. A guy who hits .320 with a .385 OBP will always be more popular than the .280/.395 guy.

Batting avg as a metric is outdated and not valued like it once was.

To some.
But watching your 4 hole hitter miss a 92 MPH fastball center cut with runners on 2nd and 3rd will make you appreciate BA much more.
BUT HE EARNED A WALK. So yeah, bases now loaded and the next guy hits into a double play.
Batting average will always be important.

ETA: I don't agree with moving the mound back. Especially 5 feet.

The strike zone never changed. Just MLB started requiring the umpires to follow the zone and not give the pitcher the ball 3 inches off the black. Enforcing the zone knees-letters and the width of the plate.

The real issue is we no longer have pitchers, instead we have throwers. Throw as hard as you can 100% of the time. That’s one reason why we have more arm injuries.

I went to a Mets/Astros game in the mid-2000s the pitching matchup was Glavine vs Pettitte I think the final score was like 4-2 and the game was over in about 2 hours. One of the best games I’ve ever been too, but today’s ADD Generation calls that boring due to last of constant scoring. Just shows they don’t know what all is going on.

Pete rose talks about hitters and their approach. It’s widely known and talked about, hitters adjusted their swing for homeruns knowing they will strike out more.

Baseball's rules are tinkered with more than any of the other major sports and it's not even close. Can we quit crying all the time and just let baseball fans enjoy the game? If they crank up the hitting more, people will start crying about how long it makes the games again. It never ends.

Stop changing every team’s logo to the gay flag in June. Stop using 50% Latin players who don’t speak English.

This kind of thinking has made the NBA completely unwatchable.

It’s a long season and guys get tired. They’ll lose 15-20lbs easy and that includes lean muscle mass. Guys in the 1980-90s, early 2000s, they didn’t have that problem and hit solid all the way through September. Fans packed the stands and nobody cried about how far the pitching mound was.

1850, mound was set at 45 feet. Batting avg was .271. In 1880, batting averages fell to .241, what they are today. They appropriately responded by moving mound back to 50 feet. 1887, batting averages fell to .247. Another response, they moved back to 55 ft 6 inches. Batting averages rose. They then fell to .239 after a while. In 1893, they responded to .239 by moving to today's 60 ft 6 inches. Batting average rose to .280. Strikeouts went from 8.2% to 5%.

There’s no way you believe that there were comprehensive stats taken in 1850. Also; there was no mound and pitchers threw underhand until the mid 1880s. You’re telling me hitting got easier with a switch from underhand to overhand?

Yes all hitting and no pitching will fix it. Those 18-16 baseball scores will put some butts in seats.

Just go ahead and practically eliminate pitching just like the NFL does more and more with defenses on a yearly basis.

MLB players have been changing their approach over the last 20 years and in part because of sabermetrics, teams have been replacing Keith Hernandezs with Kyle Schwarbers.

or we can juice the balls by lowering the seams if you want to raise batting averages and homers and lower ks

this has already been done and many think that colleges have done something like this recently

Because Kendrick Perkins and Ryan Clark don’t talk about baseball on “get up”, it must be dying
