Nike does 90%+ of the legwork for the entire Jordan brand. MJ just watches westerns and plays golf, goes fishing and messes with his race team and collects checks. His kids probably do more work Than him with Nike.

Just means it's a helluva shoe.
Thing is it’s really not. Especially from technical or actual quality standpoint. It’s just crazy marketing for cheap as shite, low quality shoes.

Crazy, that the 2 richest American athletes of all time both own sports franchises in Charlotte

He set himself up while playing, to make money till the day he died, and his kids to keep making it from him.

I checked his net worth and grok shows:
As of early 2026, Tiger Woods' net worth is estimated to be approximately $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion. This wealth has primarily been generated through endorsements and business ventures, with about 90% coming from sources outside of golf.

Jordan Brand is one of the few business units at Nike doing well.
The guy is living the life. Just plays golf at his personal country club, marlin fishes, hangs out with his NASCAR teams, and collects $275M royalty checks.

I was just talking about him being the richest athlete of all-time a couple of days ago. I appreciate the link.

He was the singular least successful NBA owner of all time in Charlotte. Zero playoff series wins in nearly 20 years.
I'm sure Charlotte (either franchise) has had tremendous success outside of that time period.
He did get the name changed back to the Hornets, which is much better than the shitty arse Bobcats.

Yet without him, there is no brand.

i don't think this is quite the "dunk" on Jordan's legacy that you seem to think it is....

Thats lifetime. This thread was annual. Either way.

Thanks to his kicking NASCAR's arse in court his race teams are now worth about $300M easily.
LOVE to see MJ's success.
As for Tiger, he need to forget about competitive golf and figure out how to live as pain free as reasonably possible.
He's HUGELY successful but it's come at a hell of a cost.

failure
It wasn't a failure, idiot. No ine cares about wins. He bought equity stake and made a ton of money when sold!
quote:
Short answer:
Michael Jordan made roughly $2.7 billion in profit when he sold his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets.
Breakdown
Bought (2010): about $275 million ?
ESPN.com +1
Sold (2023): about $3 billion valuation ?
ESPN.com +1
Estimated profit
$3.0B - $0.275B ˜ $2.7 billion gain
Important nuance
He didn’t own 100% the entire time and kept a minority stake after the sale, so the exact personal cash-out isn’t publicly broken down—but:
Most credible estimates still put his profit in the $2B–$2.7B range, making it one of the most successful sports team investments ever.
Bottom line
Jordan turned a few hundred million into multi-billion-dollar wealth, largely due to:
NBA franchise value explosion
Media rights growth
Scarcity of NBA teams

He bought a majority stake for 275 million in 2010. He flipped that for 3 billion in 2023. I’d say that’s pretty successful
