Exactly. LSU wishes they faced Oklahoma St.

Yeah, this narrative that '11 LSU was completely offensively inept is garbage. They put lots of points on the board all season except for a few games.

I mean they’d just learned of a plane crash they had been asked if they wanted to postpone the game but voted no, and it was a Friday night in bad conditions

Sure but that seriously affecting their performance would have added up if they came out sluggish. But they didn’t. They were up 24-7 near the beginning of the 3rd quarter. It doesn’t explain why their offense was shut out most of the 3rd and all the 4th.

Brandon Weedon should thank his lucky stars that this game didn’t happen, LSU would’ve made him into a 6th round pick

We owned Oregon which was a more talented version of Okie St's offense. This is dumb.

The hypothetical is so laughable I could not care less about it, but my question is, why is he specifying that they would’ve only beat LSU that year and not also saying they would’ve beat Bama?

Bama had the exact same philosophy on defense and weren’t exactly a spread offense themselves on the other side of the ball

Well, one thing is for sure, you can never take "woulda , coulda, shoulda" away from Mike Gundy, the King of I coulda woulda shoulda been a contenda.

LSU would have rolled Oklahoma State the same way they rolled every team not named Alabama that season. By wearing them down with their superior conditioning. LSU blew every game open in the 2nd half. Thinking otherwise is revisionist history based on one bad final game and Gundy certainly has plenty of revisionist history in his comments. Perhaps he should have campaigned to get into the game that hard 10 years ago.

ETA: And LSU even wore Alabama down in the first meeting on 11/5. LSU controlled that game from the middle of the 3rd onward and it really culminated in overtime. Alabama wore LSU down on 1/9.

He actively campaigned against his team leading up to Bedlam against OU. This was the same week as LSU facing UGA in the SEC Championship game (Big XII didn't have a championship game at this time).

See this article from November 28, 2011

quote:

“If somebody sat me down and said (I) had to make a decision,” Gundy said, “with where we're at right now, Alabama lost to what would be the No. 1 team in the country (LSU), and Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State.

“In our situation, if I was doing it fair, I don't know how I could put us in front of (Alabama) right now.”

While those teams were preparing, Saban was making the media blitz to get voted #2. Pretty sure he was on Gameday for an extended segment the Saturday of both games as well (if not on there throughout the day).

After the win in Bedlam, Gundy made a few comments that they should be #2 but the damage was already done. He downplayed his team's stature for an entire week while Saban promoted his team.

If Gundy thought they should have a shot, he should have spoken up and acted like it then. To come back ten years later and wax poetic is disingenuous.

LSU not getting to play Ok State in 2011 is one of the major downfalls of LSU football of that era. The program got owner by Alabama and never psychological recovered for the rest of Les' tenure.

But I got 2019 so I don't want to change a damn thing anymore. Burrow baby!

"LSU was scoring maybe 20 points a game and was happy with it."

LSU was having arguably the greatest season in CFB history up to that point, dump trucking every team in their way. 20 points per game? This guy is, and always has been, full of crap. LSU could play man to man because they had the best corners in the nation and a dominant defensive line. He thinks his team would be able to have more success than Alabama had (which was none, offensively) just because his team rolled up junk points in the no-defense Big 12?

If LSU had played anyone but Alabama in the title game, or had just about any coach but Les Miles, they would have won the NC that year. Oklahoma State lost to a bad Iowa State team. And this guy is STILL talking crap? Unbelievable.

LSU scored fewer than 35 points 3 times that season, and 2 of those were Alabama.

OSU was a spread you out and make you cover 4 receivers team. LSU would have shut that shite down with their 4 future NFL corners and 2 future NFL safeties (2 1st rounders & 3 3rd rounders. Including the Thorpe and Bednarik winners). Then their Dline, which included 5 future NFL players in the rotation (2 first rounders and 2 3rd rounders), would have dominated their Oline. On the flip side LSU would have controlled the game on offense and limited OSU’s possessions.

It would have been an absolute bloodbath.

100% LSU would have 4 national championships since 2003 of Alabama didn’t get a mulligan after losing to LSU at home.

We were avg 38.4 ppg and giving up only 10.5 ppg going into MNC game. Holding on by a thread? Please. Nice shiny hook.

If you and Grundy both believe that shite, you're both idiots. But, I'm pretty sure that you both don't.
