I don’t think landed is the right word. His recruitment is open at all times until his eligibility expires
This really isn’t even news in the NIL era, nor is it worth any of the bickering in this thread

Yes. The BIG was also buying players. But the amounts were small compared to now and since the players are in the south when the money was close to the same the SEC would win the recruiting battle, hence the domination in recent decades. Now, that the money is unlimited other schools and conferences can target players and overcome the home town discount. My team bought our 1st ever 5 star last year. In the old system he would either be at Clemson or UGA right now. But once we targeted him (probably overpaid) we got him. My point is the SEC has generally only had to bid against themselves for the southern player. Now, the market is much bigger and legally open.
And no SEC teams are not nearly as good as in the past but that is due to the portal more than anything because your depth has vanished. And the SEC is not poor but they sure aren’t as rich as others. Yes, the SEC fan bases are more rapid, vocal, and bigger than others but that has little to do with deep money.
So, if you believe the paradigm of the last 40 years where schools in rural areas will be able to monetarily keep up in an open system of purchasing then just wait and watch. We’ll have the data in another decade or so to really be statistically relevant. But in the short term you have had 2 BIG schools win Natties rather easily and there isn’t an SEC team that stands out moving forward.

Miami is a smaller private school, where are they getting all this money to outbid the majors ?

Dude got absolutely abused in their state title game loss.

It's a smaller private school that's been a magnet for kids from rich families, especially from the northeast, for decades so there's definitely money in the alumni base.
Plus the first generation of Cubans that fled the revolution had money and made more in the 1970s and 1980s and sent their kids to the university too.
The NIL administrators or whoever takes care of that stuff for the Canes have worked hard to diversify the funding base as the guy who was originally supposed to be the main sugar daddy, John Ruiz, has turned out to essentially be a fraud and his company is headed for bankruptcy.

Miami is an awesome town.
Pretty women
Good football school
Lots of nil money
Seems like a good combination

Miami doesn’t have to outbid anyone… they’re able to win recruiting battles if the money is equal unlike most schools

Jest? Miami is routinely described as the big dick(the cocky, boisterous, look at me type/Texas the high nosed, we get what we want type)) when it comes to big offers. They absolutely outbid. They did here by a bit.

2nd in 3 major recruitments since December where UGA was moneywhipped. Texas with Terry, this one and they won with Curtis without the biggest offer.
Raiola before that, and dozens more I can't even remmeber off the top of my head. shite like this is going to continue driving people away, IMO. I've been a recruitnik since the late 90s. I was the guy that would buy DVD hiighlights of the incoming class.
Seeing your team lead massively for a guy until 12 hours before committemnet then see him spurn you because he was paid $1M more than you offered is just not fun or entertaining.
And before people say "sour grapes", it works the other way too. Jared Curtis is a big time elite QB and someone that in the past I'd be celebrating for weeks. But now? He'll likely never play any significant time at UGA so who cares if he's committed now? If he isn't the starter going into his sophomore season he'll jsut transfer somewhere else.

What’s crazy about this? It’s Miami, not Miami of Ohio.

If I could choose where I live and make millions, I'd probably pick Miami too.

All of a sudden on a level playing field the SEC dominance has been stopped.
It's not a level playing field. That's the entire point, money is sucking all the air out of the room.
It's not about coaching, it's not about relationship building, it's not even about good money management, it's simply about who has the most money that they're willing to spend. That's not an entertaining product.
Deep down, it's probably always been about money, but not to such a heavy handed degree. It's gotten to silly levels where guys like Quinn Ewers would make more in college than the NFL and feels like a big, unregulated bubble imo

is the implication that big 10 schools weren’t doing the same? because of some faux moral high grind that never existed?
yeah the whole omg SEC is only good because they're the only ones that were paying players is funny as hell.
Suuurreeeee, no one outside the SEC has ever thought to do that until NIL.

OL is one of the hardest positions to project n recruiting or at least it used to be. I don't know anything about this kid, but giving him a king's ransom upfront probably won't end well.

I’ve read $2.5M for the first year with annual raises.

He is also represented by Drew Rosenhaus. That in and of itself should have raised red flags. He's the Scott Boras of football
