I keep hearing about these numbers and I’m sure they’re accurate. But isn’t it a little early to be saying this? It is super early in the NBA season. Let’s see how the rating are post all star break.
My assumption is that the numbers being posted are a comparison to the numbers posted at the same point in the season last year. I don't think they are comparing November viewership this season to April of last season.
I am a big sports fan but won't watch much NBA until the playoffs. Maybe a game here or there and probably a couple games on Christmas Day after family stuff is over with. I do like their postseason, although it drags too much. One day off between games, traveling or not, is enough.

The NBA is so boring to watch now. Used to watch almost every Pels game and primetime games.
Now I dont watch at all. It just isnt fun watching teams chuck up 3 after 3.
Also some of the blame has to be put on the NBA. They have put an emphasis on social media and highlight plays. Nobody wants to watch full games anymore, theyd rather just go to instagram and see the highlights of the night.

You can thank the casual fans “only titles matter” kinda guys for creating the narrative that the regular season doesn’t mean anything. Also many have tuned out due to politics.
So the MSB

It’s a combo of a number of things. Political stuff and no one plays defense. Harden had 50 points the other night and was 11/38 shooting and 24/24 from the charity stripe. Bad basketball to watch.

regular season needs to be cut down by at least 30%
This sounds good and all but you have to give some realistic means to recoup the lost revenues. Name one business that is going to cut their production back almost a 3rd for a 30% loss in revenue

Bingo. "Small market teams" are being held hostage by these big markets. What's the point of cheering for a team that has no chance to do anything?

Pretty much all this except the political aspect. Most people dgaf about what Athletes say.
Really? What is so profoundly different product-wise with the game to explain a massive hemorrhaging of fans? This season compared to others wasn't that different as far as FA signings/trades/coaching hires. You so sure the average fan doesn't care?

I'd also add that just like MLB, it’s a long arse season. I only watch NBA come playoff time.
Again, this is the first season the NBA has had a long, irrelevant regular season? No? Then it's awfully coincidental that the fanbase reached regular season fatigue in the very same year the NBA gets shown to be a bunch of hypocritical, self-serving blowhards.

Golden States ratings being down 50% because they suck now is the least shocking thing ever. Talk about the bandwagon to end all bandwagons.
I watched GSW because they were fun to watch. I was never a fan.

I hear you, but that schedule is bloated and needs to be addressed. 82 regular season games dilute the product too much. I think this is why we are hearing talk about a mid-season mini tournament.

Social Media has played a big part for me. Today’s stars are so unlikable. LeBron, Kyrie, Durant, even Anthony Davis. I don’t care about their politics or beliefs. Shut up and Dribble.

LeBron's games start at 10pm eastern.
No thanks.

Right yea, I’m sure you’re right and they are comparing from same time last year. My point was more just that no one watches the NBA this early anyway, so it’s hard to say if that will hold up.
Posted on 12/5/19 at 2:01 pm to RD Dawg
there is no point in watching the whole game, since 99% of all games are tied or nearly tied and decided in the last 2 minutes any way, so thats all you need to play.
give them 2 minutes on the clock and have at it, no need to waste all that time for nothing

It would be like saying, 30 minutes before kick off there are only 10 thousand fans in the stands, last week there was 15 thousand 30 minutes before.. therefore there won’t be as many people at the game... it may be true but not necessarily enough info yet.
