Only once in the 2020’s has the big 10 champion played a power school in the non conference- 2021 Michigan played Washington from the pac 12. Big 10 has a model to play all cream puffs.

Those games are typically scheduled 5-10 years in advance. Since the SEC and ACC let ESPN and the Big 10 bully them into 9 game conference schedules the odds of finding a last minute big name game that works are now pretty low. The Big 10 murdering the old Pac also made it tougher to schedule big name games.

Compare that with Ole Miss and Vandy last season.

Thats true but the covid season showed us we dont actually need a decade to create these schedules. If Indiana wanted a power 4 opponent this season they probably could have found one. And arent the neutral site kickoff games scheduled pretty quickly usually? Again if Indiana wanted to do one of those I'm sure it could have been arranged.

Yea it’s nuts that people gloss over the fact that the SEC ALREADY required a P4 OOC game before moving to 9 games. The Big 10 does not have a requirement.
All SEC teams are playing 10 P4 games every season while the majority of the Big 10 teams play 9(outside of a few exceptions a year). SEC got absolutely fleeced.

They’d have to find someone that has a similar schedule and pay them a great deal to come to Indiana. The AD budget is based on home game revenue. Then they’d have a breach of contract buyout with whomever they cancel.
The likelihood of finding a worthy P4 opponent is almost zero. Anyone of stature isn’t signing up for that beating.

That’s just not true. And it’s hilarious you think it is. In 2025, every single one of the 18 schools had a P4 game scheduled. Washington state and okie lite are in there as the schedule was made years before. There are always outliers and exceptions.
Keep telling yourself the SEC has it so much harder. The reality is that they’ve been passed.

B10 has earned the right to talk smack, but their schedules are absolute jokes and should count against them when it comes to qualifying for postseason play.

What’s even more embarrassing is that in April 2025, Indiana canceled a 2026 road game at the juggernaut, UCONN, because Cig thought it would be too difficult and replaced it with the home game vs Howard.
