At this point even if the cavs win 4 straight and win the series I don't give a shite who's the goat anymore.

For the last fricking time, you fricking lefanboi phaggots, when MJ scored 63 and lost to the Celts (amazing game)....that was NOT in the fricking Finals.

The Bulls and C's were both Eastern Conference, just like they are now.

That's how good the league was.

That's how good the Celtics were.

But it was all Jordan back then...his teammates would make LeBron's teammates look like Hall of Famers.

It was Jordan and a bunch of journeyman white guys or tiny black guys who couldn't do anything but spot up for a 3 and only hit it if they were wide open.

Jordan would get 3 guys on him (Jordan Rules) and he'd pass it to some wide open scrub.

BTW, do we have LeBron rules yet?

He's been in the league forever. Why no LeBron Rules?

All you can do is trust people who have seen them all...not just people who grew up with LeBron and LaMelo or that Duke player that everyone hated or that WNBA player that looks like a dude.

People who actually have experience and watched the sport for a long time and have seen all the greats live.

I used to think Bird was the best player and then late 80's it was Magic was the GOAT - was the best player I ever saw. Then Jordan came along...then Kobe came along...then LeBron came along...and...

Still..nobody compares to Jordan unless someone new comes along. I haven't seen such will to win in any sport ever. And do it...all the time. Like Nike, just do it. He just won. If he wanted to win, he won. Nothing was going to stop him but himself and baseball.

Old people are legitimately retarded when it comes to how sports work.

Y'all debate like complete morons. Hate facts. HATE using context. Use THE dumbest objective arguments.

It's absolutely incredible arguing with an old fart.

I know you say you aren't old. But I do NOT believe you.

He played when you just guarded your man. Basketball was SO easy for elite players back then.

He never had to run guys off the line for 48 minutes. Was switching a thing then? I don't even know.

Guys now have multiple assignments every play and have to close out on everything because 8 out of 10 players on the court can shoot.

What Jordan had to do on defense to be considered great at it is a complete joke

Congratulations, you have left me figuratively speechless. I simply lack the vocabulary to adequately express how wrong you are.

What are we using as the cutoff for "old" here? Because anybody older than 35 or so remembers the entirety of Jordan's prime and anyone over 30 remembers at least the second three peat.

Do you think the Jordan Rules came about just because Jordan was awesome or because he was awesome and the illegal defense rules required some specific maneuvering to stop a great iso player like him? The defenses now have a little more freedom to deal with that skill set.

People talk about the "Jordan rules" as if it was some complex, mastermind strategy the Pistons develop. It was essentially just doubling Jordan when he caught the ball on the wing, forcing him to drive left and the fouling the shite out of him any time he drove the lane. Ultimately it worked not because they stopped Jordan but because his body wore down over the course of a series. Jordan developed an entirely new off-season regimen in 1990, remade his body and became a much more powerful finisher with more endurance.

I'll add that there are multiple misunderstandings and flat out untruths about defense and the rules governing defense in that era in this thread by posters who clearly weren't fans at the time.

Thibodeau's defensive system was pretty much designed to stop LeBron.

True.

MJ liked to get his losing out of the way early.

Let’s put the Jordan/LeBron debate to rest

Settling the debate on who's the 2nd greatest player after David Thompson how cute, here's my 2 cents:

the copious accomplishment and stat list is unnecessary and confuses the issue rather than simplify it, very ineffective argument approach

-I know how great, talented, and transcendent both players were/are
-I know MJ always brought it in the playoffs regardless of whether his team won or lost, I know LeBron choked in the Mavs Finals
-I also know that was 7 years ago and that was the only series LeBron did not bring it out of all the playoff series he's participated in which is reaching absurd amounts
-I ALSO KNOW that LeBron has enjoyed such great and brilliant sustained longevity and remains among the absolute elites of the game if not the most elite IN HIS 15th PRO SEASON
-I know LeBron's the more versatile player by virtue of his basketball attributes, his size, and his status as a basketball unicorn-the dude's basically a hybrid of Magic Johnson/Karl Malone only he can actually shoot the basketball well from a variety of spots i.e. he's to basketball what Prince was to music

It's LeBron, versatility (dude can play all 5 positions at an elite level), intelligence (first 7 years of his pro career from AGE 18, never played for a legendary coach like Dean Smith/Phil Jackson/Tex Winter and yet leads the Cavs to the heights they achieved as their only blue-chipper, he wasn't LeGM yet like he is now), and longevity (never got burned out on the game and his fame, never took years off then returned we're talking about a level of sustained dominance on a level with only one other all-timer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) not to mention all his accolades and the amount of NBA records he holds which is probably an NBA record in itself.

Well that's just not possible. I was told that MJ had way harder competition.

Only stat Jordan has over Kareem is steals...

True. We're old enough to have seen/accurately evaluated both. This wisdom embues us with the confidence to ascertain that LeBron James is clearly the superior basketball player.

Very well put!! Coming from someone who has always been more on the MJ side, this is a compelling argument for LeBron.

I’m okay if you say that Kareem is better than MJ. He never played on the best team during his prime and hid in the corner bc he couldn’t handle the moment. Lebron fans are a lot of middle child syndrome people, that are all about shoulda, woulda, coulda.
