I feel like all these arguments get lost in game threads and it goes round and round.

I wanna clear the air and get things in one thread, and I’ll also make clear that I don’t speak for everyone but I feel like there’s a misunderstanding.

None of us so called “OKC haters” actually deny that the team is dominant. They are fricking great. Deepest bench in the league. Where most teams fall off, OKC keeps coming. They are great.

Another misconception, SGA is a great player. He’s the best PG in the league right now. Best player is subjective and everyone has their opinions, but he’s the best PG in the league.

That said, they hunt fouls. And where other teams can admit their players flop, OKC fans don’t. They refuse to believe they flop and resort to whataboutism.

Jokic flops, he flops like a MFer and it annoys me. He’s good enough where he shouldn’t have to whine to the officials but he does. He doesn’t actively “hunt” for the whistle though.

I think it comes from being so big, he gets cut up and he’s bleeding every game and he gets frustrated so he flops. Whatever. I’ll call him out on it. But at the same time, when he’s on, it’s an objectively beautiful style of basketball.

OKC, and SGA for that matter, are good enough where they don’t need to actually hunt for the whistle. They are good enough. But SGA drives the lane to actively draw a foul instead of hunting a bucket. I’ve seen him with the ball in his hands at the last second, hunt for a foul instead of trying to make a shot.

That’s bled over to the whole team. Chet acting like he got shot in the head when Ayton posts him up, Jaylin doing the scissor kick as Laravia runs past him on a 3. The examples are endless.

And what’s funny is that since this is vs LA, LSN (Lakers Sports Network) the national spotlight is finally seeing what the MSB has seen for years. OKC plays the whistle.

And I think what bothers ppl the most, is this cult of OKC fans who started watching ball in 2010 thinks we’re all out to get you.

I loved the Thunder during the Durant, Westbrook, Harden days. Loved them. I liked the Jazz era of Malone/Stockton and Mitchell/Gobert. I loved the LeBron era of 2003-2010 the Cavs. Ppl loved the Warriors, they loved the Bulls. People love likable teams, small market or big

The thing is, the nation doesn’t love OKC cause they hunt for the whistle. That’s it. That’s the story, and until yall admit your team hunts the whistle yall will be hated. That’s how it is.

Queue OU guy with some bizarre free throw stat and stonehog/oktiger saying we love this shite

Too much text

They’re incredibly talented, and as a small market team set to dominate the NBA they should be likable

They aren’t because the style of basketball they play is shite. Their biggest star is a flopping weirdo from Canada and the second biggest star looks like a legit alien. It’s unsettling to view him move in a public space

You’re right, I wrote too much and I apologize to those who read it. You put it more succinctly.

I’m sure I’ll get a ton of OKC fans saying TLDR here’s a historical free throw chart suck that thunder dick bitch

It’s not about that, full stop. Your team is dominant, just admit they hunt fouls. I used to love the Thunder

Aren't the Lakers averaging more foul shouts per game than the Thunder this series?

Edit: I don't give a rip about one team or the other, but I am just not seeing it. Heard some of the same shite back in the day about Duncan's Spurs and it rings just as hollow.

Man that was a lot of words. And no one likes OU guy's bot arse posts. But to insinuate that we started watching NBA in 2008 is stupid.

The real reason you all have some stupid hate is tripping over your dicks to defend Seattle for some reason. Those hobo lovers could have had a team this whole time had they wanted it. Fact is OKC proved with the Hornets they could support an NBA franchise and have had more success in the past 18 years than 90% of franchises out there. Thats why people hate OKC. Has nothing to do with SGA or fouls. Its jealousy

It’s definitely not that for me. I don’t care about Seattle and am happy to see OKC have a team

My favorite part is watching okietiger toe the line after spending a decade melting over Harden

This is what the NBA is now. The best players throw themselves to the floor looking for a whistle on almost every possession. It’s effective because they get to the free throw line, but it makes for a dogshit viewing experience for the fans.

Yes there are players that flop

Jokic
SGA
Brunson
Luka
Chet

The difference is on OKC they have guys that foul every possession and dont get called for it like Caruso, Dort, and Willaims.

Those other teams dont have defenders that foul every possession, once the NBA changed the way they officiated the Thunder they won a championship. Last year Caurso was fouling Jokic every possession and nothing was called.

These threads are always such a gigantic no-win situation for OKC fans. You guys always pretend like the conversation just started yesterday, and act like we have to forget all our attempts to have levelheaded conversations on here for the past 2-3 years, and all the times those attempts were rejected by other people who would rather troll and flame us than talk ball without the bullshite. You guys don't make it worthwhile for us to do anything but act like dickheads back.

What does it mean to "resort to whataboutism"? Of course OKC plays for the whistle. Every team plays for the whistle. The rules systemically favor it. Is acknowledging that basic fact about the modern NBA "whataboutism"? Or are you claiming OKC is exceptional in playing for the whistle relative to other teams? If so, how is anyone supposed to answer that without comparing to other teams?

Things that irritate me about sports, and my more recent disdain in watching OKC is the same that could be said about GSW.

When GSW was peak, I got to watch Draymond body the frick outta dudes, then on the other end a touch foul gets called randomly.

OKC is that as well

As someone in their 40’s, I can remember people hating on MJ and the Bulls in the exact same way. They may have been more likeable, but there were haters lurking too.

The Warriors went through some of this too. The bottom line is truly great teams aren’t going to be adored by everyone. OKC has a real shot to do something special over the next few years. Also, I love that OKC didn’t go out there chasing superstar free agents to build this monster. It feels very organic, and SGA isn’t doing anything different than all the other greats before him. Enjoy what you’re witnessing.

This is the part that is so, so funny to me. Most of these cats weren’t alive for that.

Absolutely biggest complaint about the Bulls: they play different level of physicality on defense yet you can’t touch Jordan.

Yep! Also heard it with the Spurs, Warriors, and when LeBron started winning rings. Watching the Lakers be painted as victims is hilarious! For over a decade I had to listen to people say LeBron gets every call!! What’s happening now isn’t anything new. The issue is teams and players now, don’t want to put the effort into playing the level of defense OKC and the Spurs play. I could watch OKC, Spurs, and even the Wolves play everyday.

SGA and OKC are living rent free in so many people’s heads, including players and coaches. That’s how you know you’re truly on the verge of greatness.

This

The issue isn't about how many free throws they get it's about how they foul multiple times every possession and don't get called for it.

Yet they get a light whistle when they're on offense

This is what is frustrating for everyone to experience and it kills the flow and excitement of a game.

If they actually got called for fouls the way these refs call fouls on their opponents many of their players would foul out by the 3rd quarter.

In fact they foul so much it's criminal for them to have anywhere near as many FTs as any team they play. When they have more!? That's just absurd.

I watched all those bulls teams, comparing them to this okc team is fricking insanity.

As a 58 year old Celtic fan I obviously love the 86 team, I can see how those Magic Lakers and MJ teams were loved but they definitely had haters even then. The only champion I've ever witnessed that didn't seem to have a lot of haters was the 77 Blazers.(minus Philly). The 78 team was better until Walton got hurt but they were a beautiful thing to watch.
