You could say the exact same thing if they didn't resign him but probably with more confidence.

I can’t imagine spending that much on a guy that is inevitably going to be hurt 75% of the time. Congratulations to him on the payday and not taking the haircut on the agent.

More like confusing correlation with causation. many said the same thing when Mahomes signed his deal now he’s the exception. Has anyone besides Wilson won on a rookie deal in that time frame? Winning the SB is extremely difficult, there no one “proven formula” that doesn’t involve a lot of 20/20 hindsight

Super Bowl winning QBs since 2013:

Wilson
Brady
P. Manning
Brady
Foles/Wentz
Brady
Mahomes
Brady
Stafford
Mahomes

A few notes:

Wilson, Mahomes (1st), and Wentz were on rookie deals.

Foles was a cheap veteran.

Brady ALWAYS left a ton of money on the table in contract negotiations so New England could load up around him. It's the most underrated part of their dynasty.

Manning had a big cap hit (6th in the league I think). He's the exception, and that one only worked because the Broncos had an ungodly defense with Von Miller on a rookie deal.

Stafford's contract was structured for him to have a very low base salary in 2021. The Rams essentially gave themselves a one year window and actually hit.

No team has won a Super Bowl with their QB taking up more than 15% of the salary cap.

Yes, Mahomes is the exception because he is a unicorn. He may be the most talented QB to ever step on an NFL field.

More than Hurts got apparently. Playing hardball worked out for him in the end. I'm surprised by that.

One could say he held out for the strongest offer

Rams won the SB with over 44 million dollars to the cap at the QB position.

Remember when Lamar and the Ravens couldn’t agree to terms and the sports media (RG3) tried to make it a racial thing

Highest-paid QBs in the league: Jackson, hurts, Rodgers, Wilson, Murray, Watson, and Mahomes.

Why is the nfl so racist?

Stafford's salary was $20M the year they won the Super Bowl. That's palatable. The Lions had a dead cap charge in 2021 after the trade.

The rams had a 24 million dollar dead cap charge from trading Goff as well which was an additional 13 percent of the cap being spent at the position

Bad deal for the Ravens. They should have let him walk.

Burrow is the big winner here if he wants to hamstring the Bengals for the next decade.

This reminds me of your old Stafford dilemma days. I feel like you've evolved on that and now think the investment is worth it?
