Even the leftists on this board are generally calling out the players on this. The NBA is going to be hurting the next few seasons (and I suspect that the NFL will be joining). Sucks that it's happening right as my Pels were starting a potentially great rebuild. I really don't think that I'll be watching very many of their games next season.
Ignoring the politics/rationality of it all, the thing that irks me is that these super wealthy and established people like Lebron, CP3, Doc Rivers, etc... aren't risking a ton of their own money. They're risking the next generation's money. I know Covid will have a big impact, but the SJWing will also REALLY hurt players that haven't come out of their rookie deals, as well as players that haven't even gone pro yet.
Basically: WOKENESS STACKED, SALARY CAP FUUUUCCKKED!
VERY late ETA: I have zero respect for a vast majority of these people, but I know for a fact that CP3 is a legit great guy. He's 100% wrong here, but I know for a fact that he treats "plebes" very well. A relative of mine fixed his AC at his super fancy condo in NOLA, and CP3 was just chatting him up while he was doing it. Gave my relative a pair of game-worn shoes for shits and giggles.

If the NBA had any balls it would terminate Lebron's contract with cause and indefinitely suspend him from the NBA. They need to send a message, the players don't run the league.

I can’t wait to hear what Whitlock has to say about Lebron and this move.

Jordan made the nba what it is. Lebron will be the one leading it’s downfall.

It’s funny really. Will the NBA and sports in general do this every time we have societal issues now?
There’s no way these guys would have sacked up and done this if there was a full arena waiting for them to come out of the tunnel.

Yeah I mean I’m usually on the players’ side about most things but this is just the wrong way to go about it imo. The NBA has been 100% all in with the players on every issue and has given them an excellent platform to bring eyes to BLM in a positive way.

Doesn't the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the NBAPA ban from going on strike? So if the players vote to boycott the season, they will be terminating their own contracts?

Promise you, it’s not official, bc they haven’t figured out how to boycott and still get paid.

I think you miss the point. If the change you want never happens, and you keep playing anyway, obviously nothing changes. What other recourse do they have? Voting has never been enough to change what they are protesting against, so what else?

I don’t feel like reading all 11 pages, but in case nobody said it... the LA teams are the Big 10 and PAC 12. Everybody else is like “frick it. Let’s go...”

Seems like a good question for the players to answer.

Yes, it does.
Rule XXX (seriously):
quote:
Section 1. No Strike.
During the term of this Agreement, neither the Players Association nor its members shall engage in any strikes, cessations or stoppages of work, or any other similar interference with the operations of the NBA or any of its Teams. Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in this Section 1 shall impair the rights accorded the Players Association by Article XXXIX, Section 3 (Termination by Players Association/Anti-Collusion) or Section 6 (Mutual Right of Termination).
