Heard on radio today.

Men’s tournament more fun first weekend since you have so many chances for upsets.

But second weekend more fun for women because it’s consistently good on good.

And Joel is both extremely tall and extremely athletic lol. He's definitely an outlier.

But that's not it. We're not talking about why women aren't as good as basketball as men. That is clearly about athleticism.

The question was about the parity in the women's game. The elite teams in WBB are vastly better than average teams. Elite teams in MBB are better than the average teams by a much smaller margin.

If we are comparing women to women, the answer can't simply be because athleticism.

The elite players in men’s college basketball ball only stay around a year. This also creates parity in men’s basketball as team’s with elite talent don’t always have team chemistry.

So yea, the pool of talent playing women's basketball is so small simply because the pool of women who plays basketball is much much much smaller

It's why when Geno got five, 5*...he gobbled up the country. Right now, in 2024...you 4 players in the country who are elite...LSU, USC, South Carolina and of course Iowa.

In high school girls didn't want to play basketball. They went out for field hockey and tennis. Basketball was seen as unfeminine.

60% of guys went out for basketball. 80% of guys went out for football. Football Fall, basketball Winter and baseball Spring... That was the average male students sports year. I mean Pat Summit and Geno were able to corner the market and stack the deck of the limited elite players available.

In 32 games there was a single upset, 6 versus 11. You even had all of the 8s beat the 9s. The probability of that seems very low.

Something is screwy about the wbb tournament; too uncompetitive and too predictable.

Probably because it’s exponentially easier to seed the women’s tournament.

It will become more interesting when a smaller, leftist utopia, starts playing trannies.

I can’t wait for the day that some dudes, pretending to be chics, totally wrecks women’s college basketball.

It will be fun watching the feminists and groomers Duke it out (no pun intended).

I wouldn’t even say elite programs as much as elite coaches

Elite coaches/schools bring in all the elite talent. And there’s not enough talent for small time coaches to make runs with veteran teams because all the top talent stays because wnba pay is shite. It’s a never ending saga.

Most elite female athletes don’t play this sport. Gymnastics. Soccer. Tennis. T&F. And probably add in volleyball. Softball is eh. Truly elite athletes don’t play softball. No one gives a frick about women’s basketball. It’s taken how many years for a player like Clark to come along and draw even a modicum of interest?

2 reasons you see more parity with men.

1. More college quality players. Just more guys playing basketball.

2. Top guys go to the NBA almost always as soon as possible. So elite teams are usually pretty young and mid majors have program guys who have matured physically.

Top 4 seeds play at home in the women's tourney too. If that happened in the men's tourney it would greatly cut down on those seeds losing.

Maybe you are a Basketball Genius, have you considered that might be the explanation?

It’s possible from the total of maybe 6-8 hours of women’s basketball I watched this season. I watched the two LSU-USC games this year and I think the first game of the season when we opened up against a ranked Colorado. Hardly anything besides that.

#2 osu just lost to #7 Duke though so I think my dreams of winning any top bracket contests are prob over now

ETA higher seeds are 31-2 now

The main reason is that they have larger rosters than the men, which allows for talent-stacking.
If NIL ever gets going in that sport, talent will start to dissipate toward more teams.

A secondary reason is that they operate like an all-girls club re seeding and team selection. The men's committee and its media allies are bad enough with their slavish adoration of the 5th-8th best Big 12 and Big 10 teams. But the women's committee is ridiculous. e.g. Mid Tenn should have been a 6 seed, and ere frankly lucky to gt an 11 the way that committee operates.

It would be pretty ******* rare for both but both would likely be related to extreme outlier height.

I mean Sophia Young helped Mulkey win her first title as a coach and she grew up playing some sport where you kicked it with your feet until she magically ended up in Shreveport at Evangel.

There wasn't much parity in the men's game for most of those historical stats, either. If you had an elite center, you won.

Pistol Pete never even played in the NCAA tournament. He did finish fourth in the NIT once, which is probably the equivalent of a Sweet 16 at the time.

Look at UCLA in the 60s and 70s. Dwarfs what Summit and Auriemma have done in the women's game.

8 vs. 9 is a 50-50 bet, basically.
