Let me be frank, there is no conversation at CUSA, nor is there an interest.... I think if I were in Lafayette’s position, I’d be trying to figure out a way to move up to a level like CUSA. So congratulations on that conversation.”
Someone tell him they were once in the same conference with Tulane, and then Tulane leveled up...

I wonder if he realizes that these days you'd probably find more people who could name all the Sun Belt teams that you could all the CUSA teams.

Fun fact: Louisiana Tech is 0-9 against Tulane in football.
Not a knock on LA Tech, who’s been pretty good lately... just baffles me how anyone could play Tulane 9 times and lose all of them.

La Tech owns ULL too, but the Cajun diehards here thank that's a rivalry (and they'll get a Big 12 invite).

CUSA vs Sunbelt is basically a cripple fight these days. CUSA is a shell of its former self.
La Tech leads the all time series 48–33–6, including 8 straight wins over the Cajuns. Ouch.
However, App State>>>>>Every CUSA team.

In football it was always one-sided, but La Tech-USL was a pretty good bball rivalry I think

The Belt Sucks but get off your high horse there mate. CUSA got pillaged by the American and had to fill those slots with...Sun Belt teams and athletic nobodies like UTSA, Charlotte and ODU. Nobody outside of maybe FCS teams are targeting CUSA as a level they'd like to move "up" to.

Tech's AD is a Northwestern State Grad.

They were talking about a merger of the two conferences to reduce travel, and it would make sense. They would probably divide into an Eastern and a Western conference

Half of CUSA is the Sun Belt I grew up with. There really isn’t much difference between the two.

Or the fact that LaTurd’s athletic budget is smaller, conference CFP payout is smaller, television access is damn near nonexistent. But CUSA is better....right.

Louisiana Tech is a good football program with a solid history. They aren’t a top tier school but they are everything you could want in a small town college team. Top 5 unis in the game too

CUSA is hemorrhaging money. A merger with the Belt would increase attendance and save tons on travel. Regardless of how much better La Tech thinks it is than ULL or ULM, there’s no doubt people in Louisiana would be more likely to go to those games than La Tech vs UTEP.
Same can be said for UAB with Troy and South Alabama.
Four divisions setup
West: UTEP, UTSA, Rice, North Texas, Texas State, Arkansas State
Central: La Tech, ULM, ULL, Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama
East: Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Troy, Coastal Carolina, FAU, FIU
North: MTSU, Western Kentucky, Marshall, App State, Charlotte, Old Dominion
Play 5 division opponents plus three other conference games before Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving weekend matches opponents based on division standings, so #1 East vs #1 North and #1 West vs #1 Central on Black Friday- the winners of those games play on championship week.

So for UAB, the conference schedule would be La Tech, Monroe, Lafayette, Southern Miss, and South Alabama + 1 team from each of the other divisions
I’d be more interested in that schedule than what they play currently. Last year UAB’s highest attended games outside of @UT were Alabama State, South Alabama, and @Southern Miss. People care more about regional games, especially at the G5 level where there isn’t a lot to play for on a national level.

Did they ever win a I-AA championship like ULM? They are probably the 2nd best program in the state in any case, Tulane had too much suck between leaving the SEC and now

That’s like the Big 12 telling the PAC 12 they’re trash. Y’all are both trash, just accept it and keep playing to get better
