Congress is going to have to step in at some point, because the federal courts don't care about college sports and are going to continue ruining it by treating it like any other business/industry.

There is about to be a flood of cases and the NCAA isn’t going to fight them all.
It always happens this way. The free transfer rule came about the same way. One player wins an injunction and the NCAA grants it universally to prevent a barrage of lawsuits. There are tons of former JUCO guys watching this right now who will say “I’m getting my extra year now.”

They will continue losing. The emperor has always had no clothes, as amateur sports were always in a weird legal position, there just wasn't enough money involved for a lawsuit to truly mean anything.

Realistically, what can congress do with this issue?

And football has a relatively low percentage of JUCO guys.
This will be utter fricking chaos for baseball.

It’s a stupid ruling from the judge. What about all other players that were pre NIL that had years not covered by it?
This is just stupidity.
This is just stupidity.

The main question being litigated is “can a private organization enforce its rules” in the manner of what compensation athletes whom are voluntarily a part of that organization can take
And the courts in recent years have decided “no”. How much the team makes, the coaches make, how much fans pay shouldn’t be a factor. Those are all the arguments for others to surmise that the athletes deserve some of that money. The athletes are compensated in exposure and a free education.
I expect that other “amateur” classifications in other sports entities will similarly end. No more amateur golf, no more amateur anything.

They could exempt the NCAA from the various laws that the courts are using to essential force the NCAA and schools to live with unrestricted NIL and portal access.

Lawmakers started this entire shite show, if anything they will take additional steps to further destroy the existing model.

I think it will be a win for fans. Just more talent spread around the country.
Will suck arse for high school kids though. It’s going to force all but the elite talent to funnel through JUCO programs.

Not terribly long, maybe within the next 5 years. Given how the courts have been ruling, I don’t see how they will stop this going forward, barring a structural overhaul of the entire system
Some of you have zero touch with reality. A professional athlete is never going to be able to return to college and play that same sport.
This will all get as fixed as possible as soon as the players form a union and both sides can collectively bargain on things. The NCAA/Universities need to get back some of the power, and a collectively bargained agreement will take the courts out of the equation. Courts rulling on NCAA rules has been terrible for the game.
And the person to run college football should be Nick Saban. I'd say he has the respect of most players, as well as the rest of the college football world. Not many others would have a better grasp on what the game needs.

This is easy for the NCAA. Tie eligibility to 5 years after graduating high school with a maximum of 4 seasons allowed in any one sport. It doesn't matter where they go before they go to a member school. The clock is already running.

Someone go find Jaime Lloreda. He still has eligibility.

Right, which proves that NIL is bullshite. The players themselves have virtually zero marketability.
People like the players at their schools. The value is their connection to the school.

Get Quantavious Leslie in to shore up that blocking on the perimeter.

Marcus Thornton has 2 years. Get John Odo for depth.

Man I don't know if I'll ever get over LSU getting an 8 seed and being paired with UNC in the 2nd round that year. Gave them their toughest game of the tourney too.

Just like some of you swore up and down that they would make it this year right? It's some big ole conspiracy. Saban owning LSU throughout his run at Alabama has warped the brains of some of you.
