I got in a wreck a couple of years ago, I wasn't driving but was wearing my seat belt, my friend who was driving was not. No alcohol involved. We got hit by a truck going about 70,spun us off the road and totaled the car. I had no clue what was going on even though I had basically no injuries. Very thankful that other cars stopped and called for help. I had no clue what was going on for some time.
Not really trying to defend the drunk driver that killed his friend, but I can certainly understand his reactions.

but you don't really process what is going on.
This is exactly how I was.
I went from the left side of the road trying to merge on then suddenly the we are off the right side of the road spinning to a stop. My mind just couldn't process everything that happened in what seemed like a blink of the eye.

I won't pass judgement on Brent's actions (or inactions) after the wreck. I don't presume to know his state of mind or what he was going through.
What I will pass judgement on - something that is inexcusable, regardless of the circumstances - is that he was driving drunk. I have no sympathy for him, and I hope he gets the maximum penalty possible, under the law. He could've easily killed a child or a family; luckily, his was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Until something like this happens to you. Go read stuff about paramedics or the first attendants to a scene. It's usually someone else who helps because the driver is in shock at everything that happened. Add in alcohol and already a muddled state and it becomes even worse. It's not just this one guy posting on here saying that
This is true. I witnessed an accident where the car went up and flames and it was my buddy who had to get the driver out of the car because the driver was paralyzed by shock.

I've been in one serious car wreck. Car spinning, hitting other cars, on it's side, smashed to hell, how the hell did I not get seriously hurt car wreck.
Within 2 minutes I was checking on everyone else. Was I loopy? Yeah, I got hit in the face with an airbag. It actually made me sick to my stomach and I puked a couple times.
I know that different people react differently to stimuli, but I think possibly the biggest difference was that I WASNT DRUNK.
How do you know this a-hole was not responding quickly because he was in shock? Maybe he was just freaking wasted? And who's fault is that?
Either way, he killed a man because he is a damn fool.
Josh Brent is not a hero is a freaking understatement. Doesn't matter if the person that said it is a media whore count. Doesn't make her less right.

Sad for all...everyone was in shock after the wreck and some maybe under the influence. The women's account of what happened should have no impact either way on anyone's feelings!

+1. Do you honestly think this guy (who before the crash was so drunk he wrecked his car) had any awareness after the crash? The fact that he is saying "he won't get out of the car" over and over again actually provides more evidence that he was in shock. I mean if that is your worst enemy in the car and you wreck it while drunk, why the hell would you consciously let them die when you know that is going to make the charges worse for you. The car wasn't even on fire initially. And I shouldn't have to say this (but will because some idiot is going to take the above to mean that I am on this guy's side), but this guy should be going to jail. Multiple DUIs, passenger died, open and shut case in my opinion. I don't, however, think he is some monster that let his friend die in the car due to any conscious decision.

This. He was shite faced drunk and caused the wreck that consequently killed his friend and teammate.
I started a thread about this the other day, and got killed for stating the guy should be shunned by the cowboys and Brown's family. But everyone was blaming the deceased for getting in the car with a drunk.

I agree......Josh Brent is not a hero. He is a murderer that needs to spend his life behind bars.
