Because they wanted the taxpayers to foot the bill for their stadium at the state and local level?
This mouthbreathing ignorance needs to stop.
Again, the Bears already committed to pay for the stadium. As has been pointed out repeatedly, they just want infrastructure assurances and tax certainty, just like any business would in any state. The Bears can't build roads by themselves.
The state of Illinois already has some of the highest taxes in the country. The sudden pearl-clutching about "taxpayers footing the bill" now is nothing but political posturing to deflect accountability for why the Bears would leave.

Chicago and the state of Illinois had 5 years to make a deal. Indiana did it in a few days. Thats the difference

Huh?
Soldier Field to Wolf Lake is 21 miles
Soldier Field to the previously proposed location (Arlington International Racecourse) is 33 miles away
Levi Stadium is 40 miles south of San Francisco
Superdome to Bay St Louis is 59 miles
Superdome to MSY is 14 miles
Crossing an imaginary line isn’t a big deal

You mean other than the aquarium, the field museum, a beach, Millennium Park…

Thank you. Exactly. The Bears expected to finally have shovels in the ground last May, and then the Illinois state legislature didn't even bring the bill to a vote.
When Kevin Warren released his statement in December that the Bears would begin exploring sites in NW Indiana, Indiana got moving, hammered out a bill, and passed it unanimously this morning.
Meanwhile, Pritzker sent out a tweet saying the statement was a "slap in the face" and then did shite about it.

Its why businesses are pulling out of these blue states/cities. They are sick and tired the socialist bullshite. Kudos to the Bears for having the stones. It's not like they are relocating. KC did the same thing. The CWS are on the clock.

Wouldn't a 20-30 minute drive just be the equivalent of the Saints moving their home field to the airport? Kenna Saints?

I would think moving Halas Hall is more a necessity than a consideration. It's closer to the Wisconsin border than it is to Soldier Field.

As a fan of the Bears I hate it, but as a hater of Illinois politics I love it.
The Bears proposal to Illinois wasn’t even ridiculous. The Bears pay for the stadium, the state pay for the infrastructure and both sides come up with an agreed fixed property tax.
The Bears threw out paying $20 million/year for property tax, even liberal California is allowing the 49r’s to pay $9 million in property tax for Levi.
Now Illinois gets nothing, and then loses some of the money they were already getting (all of these visiting players now work in Indiana).

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the KC new stadium even closer just across the river?

This is like New Orleans Saints playing in Bay St Louis. Or more identical to the Chiefs situation of MO/KS

Closer to what? Arrowhead is in Kansas City. The new dome will be ~13 miles west of it.

MLB and NFL are way different in that the former has 80+ home games all throughout the week, while the latter has 8 or 9 home games, with the majority on Sunday afternoons.
Sure. If all we are talking about is the home team games. We aren’t. At all…
NFL stadiums are being built to host events every week now. That’s the future. That’s how they make money. Concerts, events, other sports, etc.
Much less often are there concerts and events like final fours in MLB stadiums.
You don’t build restaurants and attractions for 9 days a year.

I'm not entirely sure what you're contending from my post. I acknowledged there would be additional planning from the city's residents on the north and northwest side, in addition to the North Shore and NW suburbs.
I know you understand. But your suggestion that bears fans would have very little additional travel time or logistic issues is simply flat out ridiculously wrong.
Soldier field had shite parking and no close L stops. Everyone agrees to that. But if you were from central downtown, the north burbs, northwest, or west like the vast majority of fans going to games then moving the game to Indiana is a bigger pita to get to. For many of them possibly an extra 30-60 mins

My post should have had almost zero alternative interpretation - For a portion of the population around Chicagoland, whom I acknowledged, "more planning" will be needed. Didn't think I needed to be explicit in defining what that means: Time. Other than that, all I said was:
(1) In response to the person I quoted, anyone living in The Loop will have an easier time getting to Hammond than others in the city, by virtue of the SSL at Millennium Station.
(2) The route is not a 'maze' because, well, it isn't. It's an easy-to-follow to/from, whether you're driving the Edens, Eisenhower or Kennedy.
Think you need to reread my post because nothing written "[suggested]" anything controversial or out of the ordinary

Depending on where in Hammond that is, it's less than a mile from the Illinois State Line. Maybe they plan to park in IL and walk over to the stadium.

Mmkay. It wouldn't be a pain for people downtown.
And getting to games in Arlington Heights would be a major pain for everybody else in the southwest and south. Soldier Field is technically the south side anyway.
I don't know why you're committed to believing the "vast majority" of fans live up north. That hasn't been true since the Cardinals were on the south side.

Good. More teams need to move on, its well proven that NFL teams are not worth the investment.
I do have a problem with taxpayers paying for business projects for billionaires. On the incentive size a football team shouldn't get more/different incentives than any other business.
