Why is this the go to?
Great question. And when did it start?
The lack of creativity in society is sad.

I am 56 and that phrase has been around as long as I can remember

I dunno about athletes, but the most "cringe" thing fans yell is
"GET IN THE HOLE!!"
"GET IN THE HOLE!!"

We live in a conformist society. Tell me how many people you know who don’t say the word “literally” every third sentence. I may be the only English speaking person who refuses to say that word or “let’s go!” unless I’m taking my son to school .

The current annoying incarnation started with Tom Brady and that shitty commercial he was in. It went from a common phrase that’s been around forever to a cringe point of emphasis at the end of random sentences.. it’s very similar to what Bama fans started doing about 15 years ago when they started adding roll tide to the end of everything..
Just pumped gas.. roll tide or just fricked my fat wife.. roll tide
Just bought beer.. let’s gooo
Just dropped a deuce.. let’s gooo.

This isn’t really what I’m talking about though

I normally say “Let’s go Girls” to the tune of “Man, I feel like a woman.”

No no we should start yelling Let US Go out there!

This one comes to mind immediately. I’m sure there are many others
Edit- at least meeting the cringe criteria.

Let's go! isn't near as bad as "suck that tiger dick, bitch"
Seeing adults screaming that phrase tops them all

Great point. But this is only relevant to LSU fans.
It’s absolutely the trashiest thing I’ve seen from a fan base.

My wife yells that at me when I make her wait. I gotta admit, it fires me up.

One of my sons when he was 11 or 12 playing NCAA on the XBox would yell, "Get em going!" every time he made a big play. My wife and I thought it was funny. To this day, all these years later, we'll say it to each other whenever something good happens.

I can’t stand that crap. The statement is idiotic. Athletes are idiots. So it makes sense. It’s the most brain dead, unimaginative hype phrase there is. But just think about how stupid the next one will be.
Bech yelled it repeatedly after he was drafted and it made him look ridiculous.
