Sean Payton was the Chip Kelly of the NFL. (excluding the time when chip was in the nfl.)

All the other coordinators caught up to him.

I think Sean's system is just very outdated, to be honest.

Possibly

I also think he just took over a complete shite team. Denver was awful last season, and most of us blamed it on Hackett while insinuating they were better than that. Maybe they're not, maybe they're just terrible.

Payton over the years in games Brees was out had a really good record, especially compared to other coaches without their similar star QBs in Manning/Rodgers/Brady.

It was their LBers and secondary that looked like total dogshit. They gave up 700+ yards. They were so confused and lost and when they did have their chances, they couldn't wrap up and tackle to save their lives. It was pretty bad for being the NFL level.

This is incorrect and people talking this way obviously have no idea where Payton’s roots come from. He has a background in the Erhardt-Perkins system, the West Coast system and the Air Coryell system. Every productive modern offensive philosophy Payton has background in, even some of the silly little Turkey Bowl offense all the colleges run now.

Disingenuous to a degree. He was hurt and they had Phillip Rivers.

The year Payton was suspended and Brees threw around 45 TDS without him should have been a hint.

But now that Payton has the GOAT in Russell Wilson, I’m not too impressed.

I had a feeling back in 2021 when the Saints were just average after Brees retired that Brees was responsible for a lot of the success the Saints enjoyed under CSP.

Is this a goof??

Taysom is a good dude & all but he is not an NFL quarterback, and he’s certainly not a top 5 of ALL TIME quarterback (see Drew Brees). I think you took too many gummies

Sean was never the same after bounty gate…… it just seemed like the game passed him by after that and he was a step behind…..

Payton and Brees were good for each other. Remember, Brees was cast aside by San Diego as kind of a bust after they drafted Rivers. Brees would not have turned into a HOFer had he stayed in San Diego.

I am legit shocked he still gets DC jobs and people don't melt down about it. When was the last time he had a good defense?

It’s not, they can both be great, just like Belichick and Brady. I will never understand these threads. It’s pretty clear they needed each other, and you can’t pull anything from a 3 game sample size in 2023 with a new roster.

Brees literally had a season with a 105 QB rating (during a time when a 105 QB rating really meant something) when he was in San Diego. Why do people keep acting like Brees was fricking Daniel Jones before he teamed up with Payton in New Orleans?

He won the division and took the chargers to the playoffs for the first time in 10 years while having a great year and made the pro bowl!

Thanks for asking!
