The consensus CFB blue blood programs are as follows:
Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska

The following eight programs are generally seen as "new bloods," or the tier immediately below:
LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Penn State

With 2 titles in 3 years (along with another in 1980), does Clemson officially belong in that second tier?

We are happy with being "Little Old Clemson"

What do you do with schools like Minnesota? Minnesota has 7 claimed national titles!!

It's been too long to hold relevance for those titles though. And the mediocrity has been so consistent, you can't give them the Michigan treatment.

Yes we did. Not sure of the relevance

Minnesota is one of the most overlooked schools in the history of college football when you take everything into consideration.

I tend to agree, but they're overlooked because everyone that was around for the claimed National Championships is dead. Minnesota has, largely, been irrelevant for near 60 years. They haven't won a Big Ten Championship or been to a Rose Bowl since 1961.

Tier 1(blue bloods) = Nebraska
ND
Michigan
USC
Bama
OU
Ohio St

Tier 1.5 = Texas

Tier 2 = Penn St, Tennessee

Tier 3 = Georgia
Miami
FSU
LSU
Michigan St
Florida
Washington

Maybe Clemson can be 3.5

WTF is a "blue blood" anyway?

Clemson is the best program in the country

It pains me to admit it, but I agree with your premise.

But Clemson needs to another few years of winning to get into the second tier.

Can’t be a flash in the pan to get in.

But apparently you can be irrelevant for 2 decades and still be a blue blood (Michigan, Nebraska)

LSU has 3 titles to Penn State’s 2,

Yes, But I can think of two times in my life where PSU got the shaft in voting before the BCS era.

quote:

Penn State’s schedules for almost all their history were terrible until the late 1970’s. Check out those “undefeated” schedules they played in 1968, 1969, and 1973 - they played a combined two ranked teams in three regular seasons, mostly under-resourced regional programs and service academies.

Ever looked at LSU's schedule in those days? A lot of losing record teams. LSU was scheduling Kentucky while Uga-AUb & Bama-Tenn played. And don;t act like florida was good in those days. There was State and Ole miss every year mostly in Baton Rouge . Rice, Tulane, A&M.

1968, 1969 LSU only played 2 teams with a winning record each year and lost. And in 1973, LSU played 3 teams with winning records lost 2 of them. Here's the kicker, LSU lost to PSU in the Orange Bowl that year.

quote:

Paterno carefully cultivated an image of being a blue blood, but it was largely a farce.

No it wasn't.

Not an LSU fan or SEC fan, either.

Just saw this. Always assumed you were.

I agree, that fits you pretty well after I posted statistical proof L8U is nowhere close to the top 10.

A little town in South Carolina is not going to attract to produce anything like 80's Miami.

They play in an insanely easy conference and to their credit they showed up for the biggest game of the year last night, but their "dynasty" is an optical illusion.

This is the dumbest shite I have ever seen on this website.

Kids will go to whoever is winning. Miami isn’t winning anymore. People aren’t sheltered as they were a while back, meaning playing in Miami means jack shite these days when you can go there during the summer or spring break.

You posted that Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Penn, and Mount Union are better all-time football programs than:

LSU
Auburn
West Virginia
Florida
Washington
Virginia Tech
Texas A&M
Wisconsin
Pitt
Arkansas

I’m sure everyone agrees with you.

Tier 1.5 = Texas

You are right about that. But they are closer to tier 2 than tier 1.

Texas gets so over-rated historically.

Oklahoma is either #1 or #2 and yet they get lumped in with Texas.

Oklahoma won 47 games in a row and leads the nation with a .765 winning percentage since World War II and have finished in the Top 5 - 32 times - more than anyone.

The teams with the most # of weeks they have been ranked #1 in the AP Poll since its inception in 1936 through January 8, 2019.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Oklahoma (used to be #1 before a few years ago)
4. Notre Dame
5. USC (used to be #1 in 2010)
6. Florida State
7. Nebraska
8. Miami
9. Texas
10. Florida

Texas is more Florida than Oklahoma.

Michigan slides in because they've won more games than anyone were the first dominant team before Notre Dame came along.

quote:

ND
Michigan
USC
Bama
OU
Ohio St

That's probably the correct list.

Texas and Nebraska and Penn State are a tier below.

Miami and FSU totally new money.
