Really? You’re dinks and can only afford to go to one game a year? You can simply get a hot dog and peanuts/popcorn. Yeah it’s $20 but it’s $20 not $200.

Not sure that's a good example

People are paying the prices they’re willing to pay. Sports continue to be able to charge more and get people to pay it. It’s the debt culture of our country funding it
Not really, it’s gone from mostly individual ticket buyers to corporate buyers

That’s the other half of it. Corporate does heavily fund this, but the general inflation in the venues and ticket prices is supported by people being willing to pay more

I have a family of four, we can go to Nuggets, Avalanche, or Rockies games for $150 in tickets and another $100 or so in food, if we choose to eat there.
That’s a lot of money for most people

Not really. If I get tickets from my company to bring clients, I’m using the corporate card to buy food and drinks.
I don’t know that there is any data to support it either way, but anecdotally when it’s on my personal card, I’m much more likely to eat before and maybe grab one beer at the game because the shite is absurdly over priced. $12 for nasty arse nachos with about a tablespoon of cheese from Sam’s that’s probably room temp

So dont buy a $15 coke. Its not that hard to go 3 hours without food or drink and there's usually very good food options outside the stadium for standard pricing

You’re hating the player when you should be hating the game. Thats fricking absurd

Ive defended Arthur Blank numerous times and if I owned a pro sports team id copy his concession pricing structure. Hes a great owner and a good person. If dumbass fans stopped paying $40 for a beer / nachos / hot dog combo i betcha the prices would come down

But then you have to watch the Falcons

The problem is the juice isn't worth the squeeze. What are you getting in return for that 250 bucks?
You’re paying that much to not be the guy who cant afford it and has to watch his old high school play

I don't go to sporting events that much anymore because of the cost.
Posted on 7/5/25 at 1:56 pm to jlovel7
That's everything now to be honest. I do enjoy some premium amenities though.

I work as a PM on athletic venues... can confirm the bulk of what we have done over the last few years and have planned for the future is aimed at carving out more premium spaces even if it means fewer total fans in attendance.
Bigger seats, club spaces, exclusive standing room and 4-top areas, more suites. Even VIP entrances, restrooms, etc.
Alcohol sales being allowed by the SEC was a game changer for this one.

It's more obvious in postseason events. My family got nosebleeds for Panthers/Rangers, Game 3 of the 2024 ECF. 4 tickets were just under $800 after fees. Game first home game of the series on a Sunday afternoon. I was expecting less for the event but I should've remember every snowbird that hates the Panthers would scoop up tickets and the arena knows that.
When the Stanley Cup rolled around, getting tickets to either home game 1/2 would have run over $900 each after fees. Just around 20k capacity, but still feels outrageous.

I agree 100%.
Sure, you can get cheap tickets to an MLB game, but by the time you pay to park and eat (even if it’s outside the stadium), you and your kid are paying over a hundred bucks for nosebleeds to see a mediocre team. That doesn’t even include gas money or a hotel.
The part that kills me is paying for luxuries I don’t care for. I don’t need a gourmet hot dog, chef prepared vegan meals, a social media wall, and 15 different versions of premium seating. Give me a foamy cheap beer and trough urinal in an 80 year old ballpark with paint peeling from the walls. Those places had character.
The best example is the Wrigley Field bleachers. It’s a place to be seen now. The fans don’t give a shite about the game. That’s why we have so many sterile atmospheres in sports.

quote:This is 75% of the problem - they're catering to the women and people who are just wanting to show off that they're there - not the people who go to the game who watch the game. They want the women and suburban dads to show off their food and drinks and post pics of them in their seats, not the actual action. Therefore they dress everything up to appease that crowd.
Social media and the ability to make sure everyone knows you went to the game and dressed like a pretentious douche has really amped up the luxury of attending events
The other 25% of the problem is dressing up the stadium to look good for corporate sponsors who bring their clients there to conduct business or schmooze each other over to show off their money.
The average fan doesn't need LED boards that go a mile wide or seventy different craft beer options. Beer, hotdogs, soda, sit and watch the game? They're not looking for you.

Just get something somewhere else before or after the game. That’s what I usually do. The local businesses that aren't owned by billionaires need support too. I don't know if other teams do this, but mine has ticket offers all the time if you sign up for them.

I went to an MLB game with my kids and I felt like I was getting robbed. Ended up spending like $200+ on bullshite hot dogs, popcorn, bottles of water, and ice cream. Really makes it hard to enjoy the experience when they’re raping you on concessions.

All I need at a baseball game is a couple of hot dogs, a drink, a scorecard and a pencil. Of course I am an old fart in my late 60s who doesn’t need constant sensory stimulation.
