Their AD is short ~15% of their budget and they have no NIL money and their all time hero coach just bailed. Tough to see them ever making a playoff run in this climate, and that’s why Matt Campbell left.

That's basically what happened when DeBoer left UW for Alabama. The only difference is DeBoer left after the transfer portal had closed. I think UW had something like 60 new players the year after playing in the National Title game.

Not to mention the AD has full autonomy over NIL funds and won’t let coaches control it.

Regular students transfer all the time. Regular students drop out for work opportunities or just because they're tired of school. The governing bodies and the courts could have managed this a lot better but there's nothing inherently wrong with the new paradigm. College sports will succeed under it or fail. If it fails, I'll miss it but nothing lasts forever.

The Supreme Court decision that opened the door to this was 9-0, with all the conservatives and liberals united, and one of the biggest conservatives on the court, Brett Kavanaugh, wrote the decision in which he signaled strongly that he was ready if another case was brought to go even further toward the players.

In other words, this decision ain't about to be overturned, mic drop.

Honestly the NIL stuff doesn't bother me.

Its the transfer crap that ruins college sports. Go back to those rules with the NIL and we're good.

I frankly have zero interest in college sports now. I guess lots still do based on ratings. I'm sure if Lane gets LSU going I'll watch again but I've barely watch any college football in recent years when my Saturdays used to revolve around it. My young kids have even taken an interest but I can't get into it.

I've also read where ISU will sign about 50 transfers in the next couple weeks.
Well yeah, they kind of have to now since they only have 17 current players returning.

The schools were the ones that started this, by making scholarships a year-to-year renewal. They would "process" out non-performers, so that they could add new talent. Why wouldn't players have the same opportunities?

I believe less than half of portal players actually find a new program.

College sports as a business can work but it needs what all the pro leagues have, stability.

You need enforceable contracts, you can't have every single player on every single team being a free agent every year.

Get the transfer portal shite under control, make NIL money subject to actual contractual obligations, and have anti tampering rules and actually enforce them

I hear you, but what is getting an education for? For employment, right? Or is it just too sound intelligent/well-informed at social events?

This is no different than a vocation school (that nobody has a problem with if they wanna be a nurse, chef, IT guy, mechanic, actor, musician, etc). A college athlete can get on-the-field training/education for a professional sport & get paid (handsomely) like an intern.

NIL isn't the problem, though.

The problem is the unbridled free agency with zero consequences.

Former 5-star DE Tunmise Adele entered the Transfer Portal over the weekend.

He's played one season each at the following schools:

Texas A&M
Michigan State
Texas State
UNLV

And now he's off to another program. It's fricking ridiculous.
