Why not take yds/gm instead of ypc? Why ignore receiving statistics since the NFL counts those yards and TDs just as much as rushing statistics?
Look, I've been a Raider fans since 1964 when I went to my first Raider's game at Frank Youell Field. I loved watching Bo, but he was never more than a part time player for the Raiders. Putting him in the game also meant taking Marcus Allen out. Some would question whether that was beneficial.
Why discount Walker's stats to treat him like a part time player? He was anything but a part time player. And how does Walker average only 4.3 ypc in your discounted world when he never averaged less than 4.4 ypc in real life? Walker ran for 6,299 yards on 1,294 carries or 4.9 ypc. Reducing his carries to equal Jackson's for comparison sake should not change his ypc. I guess that is Auburn math at work.

Second year in NFL. YPC = 4.26
Third year in NFL. YPC = 4.19
From your link poodlebrain.
Guess the name fits. Who sucks at math now?
ETA: Fourth year in NFL. YPC = 3.66

frick it, this is fun...
Walker - NFL
5th year: 4.2 YPC
6th year: 4.2 YPC
7th year: 4.0 YPC
And so on. But he never averaged less than 4.4 ypc in real life, right?

Bo in NFL:
Year 1: 6.9 YPC
Year 2: 4.3 YPC
Year 3: 5.5 YPC
Year 4: 5.6 YPC
Keep in mind, Bo didn't even have the benefit of training camp. He had very little practice with his offense, which holes to hit, etc. Hell, he barely even had time to learn the playbook when he jumped from baseball to football right after baseball season ended and football season was in full swing.
About impossible to say some practice and training camp to learn the playbook and the holes to hit as well as get in football shape would not have been likely to result in even better numbers. Yep, even better than what was/is the best YPC in NFL history by a RB.

Which is why you'd take Walker.
Bo is the great what if in sports history? Coming in midway through the season to dazzle with a few runs. He's more legend than reality.
Biggest upside is definitely Bo. But going by their college and pro careers (which is all you can go on) - the player you'd take is Walker for his years and production and consistency.

I mean Bo knows and can do anything and everything
Can Herschel pick up a tree and smash a bull dozer? i rest my case.

Yall using Herschel's "first x amount of years in the NFL" is apples and oranges. Herschel went to the USFL first, and played there in likely his prime years. Comparing what he did a few years later after going to the NFL to Bo's first few years just isn't the same.
Why don't you compare their first whatever years of professional football?

Dude you tried to use the "Herschel played one less year" argument. Conveniently leaving out the fact that in three years Walker had over 350 more carries than Bo Jackson in four.
I'm not saying the NFL comparison is a good one, but neither was yours.

Walker would beat the shite out of almost every other human being on the planet even at this age.
Holy Jesus what a freak.

Bo Jackson had 4,575 career all-purpose yards in 4 years at Auburn. Herschel Walker had 5,259 RUSHING yards in just three years.
just for some perspective, Walker had 994 carries & Bo Jackson had 650
Walker had better stats. Bo was the better RB.

I agree. In COLLEGE its Walker and its not close. In the NFL its Jackson and its not close.

The only time they were in similar positions is Bo in 1985 and compare that to Herschel's seasons. They were pretty much dead on with Bo having a ypc. With that said, there is a lot to be said for durability.
Basically anyone saying "not close" for either guy is just not being very smart.
