what they don't like is that, to Winnfield, their decent means 6-4 or 7-3 every year...

J.T. could personally take dumps on the 50 yard line and they'd go 7-3...

It's just sad when this whole thing isnt about the kids being upset. I am willing to bet none of the actual players are the ones complaining about schools/districts/recuiting. It is all the parents, school admins, and others who can handle watching their kids fail.

I disagree with it, so I blame the liberals.

you try being one of these 1a-2a working your way through the playoffs, knowing that your run will end the week you draw Evangel or JC. Hell, you may even make it all the way to the dome, but you still don't belong on the same field as them, and they'll prove it.

Ok, I've loosely kept up with this debate on here and listening to people go back and forth on talk radio and my question is this: How in the hell do other states handle this issue? I've never heard that addressed and don't understand how LA is the only state to be facing this issue?

C'mon guys. U-High got this good by hard work and good coaching

U-High got this good from every single alternative in BR being and absolute shite-show. If I'm an inner city parent, I am fighting tooth and nail to get my child into U-High, BR Magnet, or Parkview.

Alot of this "recruiting", especially in the larger cities, has more to do with academics and the quality of education than it does sports. I believe the sports are just a bonus.

If I live in northeast Lafayette, my child can go to Carencro, Northside, or Teurlings. Carencro and Northside routinely have better football teams than Teurlings, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm sending my child to Teurlings as long as I can afford it.

This is a legit gripe. Blame the catholic league and other powerful 4A and 5A schools for the play-in-class rule. Dumbest shite ever.

Case in point: How many John Curtis High School
football players actually pay their own tuition?

My family paid my tuition and I know for a fact a number of my friends and teammates parents paid. So this is a bullshite rumor based in jealousy.

There were kids whose parents didn't "pay" tuition. Their kids were able to receive a free or discounted education because of work the parents did for the school such as working in the cafeteria, driving a bus, cleaning the school, maintaining the grounds,etc...

quote:

JC had about 90-100 kids dressed
for the game. Yes, some were freshmen but 100
football players in a school with less than 200
boys in grades 9 through 12?

You do realize that some of those kids were in 8th grade? Let's do the math. 5 classes of students with an average of 20 football playing kids in each grade=100 total. I hope that wasn't too complex for your brain. You should also know that JT doesn't cut any kids from the team. If a kid has a dream of playing high school, it can happen at John Curtis if they are willing to put in the work. Most of the kids on the team only see the field in a blowout.

quote:

Select schools have certain advantages
that do not make a level playing field, even
if they don't outright recruit players.

Yes, but those parents also pay or work for those advantages while their tax dollars pay for all of the other kids to go to school at a public school.

quote:

When Winnfield played
John Curtis in 2011 we had twice as many fans
as JC, with Winnfield having to travel 250 miles
and JC less than 20 miles from the Superdome

I am pretty sure that JT Curtis had nothing to do with the site of the State Championships or where the Superdome is located. No one wants to freeze their arse off in the Independence Bowl. Deal with it.

quote:

Other than their own families and a few others,
nobody gives a damn about private schools.
Goodbye and good riddance.

The only thing that this change will accomplish is to make the select schools more relevant and the non-select less relevant. Congratulations on weakening the high school football in this state.

then why are you spewing this "every child gets a trophy" bullshite?

is 9 state championships the way to go? probably not.

is a 2a school playing for second place every year the way to go either? i don't think so.

Bring them back up to the big schools, and that's that.

Other states don't really matter because no state has the exact same situation. Where else does such a large part of the state, especially an area like South LA, associate with private schools?

Yeah but right now the issue is Orleans parish is allowed to use the whole parish as its district. How do you enforce that? They will stay non-select based off that.

Yeah, I guess your right. I just figured this couldn't be an issue that was isolated to Louisiana, but I guess so.

Most states, only a few even attend private school compared to areas like New Orleans. But I think the big issue here is that public schools do have a huge advantage on getting kids for free, so I don't even think there is an issue.

and oddly recently another school openly admitted on tv broadcast admitted that parents were "sponsoring"

ie paying to tuition of other kids at their school......

and this school has never won state.

just think how a school where most of their seniors are 17 get to the finals and get beat by 18 and 19 year olds..

So I assume your laughing emoticons means you don't agree?

Perhaps we can ask jrevonte how all of this talent has been recruited?

If you lived right below the I-10/I-110 split, would you want your child to go to McKinley or U-High?

What difference does it make if he is a talented football player or not?
