so.. if they are giving minority scholarships to athletes - how is that not any different than what people are accusing uhigh, curtis and eca of doing?

When I say "athlete" with Episcopal, I have to preface it a bit. Episcopal's stance toward athletics was once described by a coach there as "If we had a Tiddlywinks team, the school would require both a Varsity and a JV squad so everyone could play."

I'll give a hint why private schools might want to go all out for their athletics now... One gym you may have seen on tv has a black and white banner with a swoosh on it... Another one ain't just doing shoring commercials

How in the hell do other states handle this issue?

In Georgia they have split public/private championships for the lowest class A and this was actually a good thing. The lower class public schools are in less populated areas and struggle with funding for athletics and regulations on how to spend that money while most of the private schools in A in GA are from very affluent areas with a lot of money flowing in. The current top 2 seeds in the 1A private schools are from Atlanta suburban areas.

Instead of more split championships GHSA is currently discussing a numerical factor to multiply to enrollment of private, magnet, and charter schools and some city schools. City schools are included because of the additional tax money provided by city collections that county schools do not receive.

There are many complaints of recruitment in GA just like in LA. I think it is part of the culture in high school athletics.

Possibly.

Haven't been close with the coaching staff in probably 10 years nor have I had close contact with a lot of students there in that time.

At least two particular coaches with some success there over the long run had pretty much figured out how to take guys who were middling athletes but had work ethic and then train them up into executing well.

They occasionally got good athletes to work with but were usually asked to make chicken salad out of chicken shite.

Principal Griffin is simply saying that recruiting is fine as long as it is the public schools doing the recruiting.

I know for a fact the former freshman at Scotlandville who is now a star lineman at U-High was recruited.

If this is the same person I'm thinking about, I remember reading an article about him and his parents went off the record and said that "no, he was not recruited."

Yeah that's exactly what she's saying. I wish some of you who are ripping her apart would take a few minutes to meet her. I guarantee you wouldn't be spouting off about her character.

No one is saying the split in its current form is perfect. Jane Griffin spoke for a whole lo of people in this state but she wasn't the only one who voted for the plan. A MAJORITY of principals did.

And I can assure you Dr. Griffin is not for "recruiting" or any other kind of cheating, public or private

I don't think the split says anything about her character. Now if the other ordeal with the nurse is true, that says plent about her character. Been a rough year for Ms. Griffin.

He is talking about the principal from Parkway....I guess. You know, I do my best to bring rational thought and discussion to this board, especially on this topic because emotions are running high. But if someone can't even get the right school/principal and they just start tearing into people without knowing what they are talking about, it may be a lost cause.

I will say again - I am not anti-private, as I graduated from a private school. I am for a level playing field with consistent rules, just as Dr. Griffin is

I'm sure she's a wonderful person. But the idea that this is about recruiting makes no sense. Public schools recruit.

And as I've said multiple times, this has never been about recruiting for me. It's all about attendance zones and how they are unequally applied to different schools

Class c was told to vote for the split or the next move was to abolish class c and combine with class b

This is about north vs south and not public vs private

JC and ECA are schools run by football coaches. What do you expect them to do? Not compete? They are open about their mission and athletics is a priority. Don't like it? Kick them out, accept they are going to sue and let the courts sort it out

This whole thing is tommy Henry's fault and is just continued by henderson and his flunkies. The organization is corrupt and the kids suffer as a result

In other states they are split to protect the privates from the dominant publics. Quite the opposite in Louisiana

Mrs. Griffin should be commended for proposing
the split playoffs.

First of all no she shouldn't. Sore loser can't stand she lost to a real team in the championship.

Most of the ones griping about the split are
the Select schools' supporters who will not
accept the FACT that certain Select schools
abused their right to even be in the LHSAA

Not your standard private schools. U-high (barely private), Jc and ECA. Who else?

Select schools have certain advantages

You know what what the advantage is? We pay TUITION.

Please continue to having your affair with the honorable and noble Jane Griffin. While your at it thank her for destroying high school football in Louisiana as we know it.

Over-dramatic much?

By the way, thank your private school English teachers for your inability to properly use the word "your." All that money was clearly worth it.

Just remember this whole thing was about "fairness" and everyone having an equal shot to win a state championship

There is no such thing as fairness when there are so many differences between the regions and the schools. And there is no way to create a scenario where everyone has an equal shot at a state title. There are always some schools that are just better than everyone else.

I think it is also disengenuous that these admins argue about state title hopes when this is really all about pride.

Pride goeth before destruction.....
