Explain

Match 2023

Dollander only makes it through 4.2 innings vs lsu giving up 2 earned runs

2025

Dollander is a starter for the Rockies and it’s impossible for them to score a run?

That LSU team wouldn’t score.

They could theoretically score as scoring in baseball can happen in flukish ways. Putting the ball in play always lends itself to the potential of finding holes with weak contact. But Skenes would have to likewise, as his college self, be close to perfect for LSU to have any prayer of winning and he’d also probably need to pitch a complete game as I wouldn’t trust an LSU bullpen arm from that team to hold an MLB team scoreless for an inning or more.

So basically, for that unicorn of a pitcher in college to beat a bad MLB team, he’d need to pitch the game of his life and have a lot of baseball luck go his team’s way on offense. It’s theoretically not impossible but very very unlikely. Like I said earlier, Wake Forrest held that team scoreless through 10 innings and Skenes also threw his best game of the year. And 2023 Skenes is the only college pitcher the last 15+ years id ever give a chance to pull that off. Think about it this way. He’s better now with more command over more pitches and he’s only had two outings this year where he gave up no runs and the longest outing was 7 innings

I think I do disagree with you on basically needed miracles to score

Rockies have given up 21 and 17 at points this season. On those nights from those pitchers I think good college teams would score without needing “that’s baseball” luck

In the course of a season, yes. But in the randomness of baseball it would happen where teams scored against them by hitting

There are a couple teams that might be able to keep it close with their ace pitching, but once a pro team gets into a college bullpen they would name their score.

Skenes played college baseball in 2023 In 2024 he had a sub 2 era in the mlb- his two months in the minors didn’t transcend him….

He developed one of the main out pitches on his arsenal that offseason.

You are closer to being a college baseball player than the vast majority of the CWS rosters are to being a major leaguer in terms of talent.

I am saying I think the Rockies dominate college baseball and would be heavy favorites every game they play . That’s contrarian?

Imagine watching college baseball all weekend and thinking the Rockies would ever lose. You got guys on what was the top ranked team in the nation for much of the year swinging at balls in the dirt from the back of Arkansas Little Rock’s bullpen

Use this vid as reference. Here’s a guy currently batting .208 and 7 hrs in the majors. Not really tearing it up. But you put a metal bat in these guys hands and…

If this same Rockies team had played in the 2023 CWS and faced skenes twice I would have given us a slim chance both times. I feel like we could have manufactured a run or two each game or gotten lucky with a homer from crews or Jobert……again, SLIM, VERY slim chance.

They're run ruling 95% of teams by 20+ in the regular season and might go undefeated. Every game would be an absolute bloodbath unless they go up against a 1st round ace that's mlb-ready and has his best stuff. Here's how some of their guys played in their final NCAA seasons(6 of their 9 best players went straight to pro's)

C Goodman Memphis .307/.401/.678 21 HR 51 RBI 11 IBB
1B Toglia UCLA .314/.392/.624 17 HR 65 RBI
2B Schunk Georgia .339/.373/.600 15 HR 58 RBI
3B Hiura UC Irvine .442/.567/.693 8 HR 42 RBI 12 IBB
SS Miller Illinois St. .384/.433/.537 6 HR 35 RBI
LF Beck Tennessee .298/.391/.595 18 HR 61 RBI
CF Doyle Shepherd .392/.502/.758 13 HR 47 RBI 9 IBB
RF Bouchard UCLA .306/.396/.523 9 HR 43 RBI 6 IBB
DH Bryant San Diego .329/.493/.820 31 HR 62 RBI 21 IBB

Average .346/.464/.648
For comparison, Jones is slashing .323/.463/.621 on the year for LSU

Starters
Freeland Evansville 10-2 1.90 ERA 2.62 RA9 0.913 WHIP 11.6 K/9
Dollander Tennessee 10-0 2.39 ERA 2.85 RA9 0.797 WHIP 12.3 K/9
Palmquist Miami 9-4 2.89 ERA 3.54 RA9 1.214 WHIP 12.6 K/9
Herget South Florida 10-3 2.92 ERA 3.19 RA9 1.220 WHIP 10.0 K/9
Rollison Ole Miss 10-4 3.70 ERA 4.62 RA9 1.366 WHIP 11.1 K/9
Bird UCLA 7-4 2.18 ERA 3.63 RA9 1.290 WHIP 4.9 K/9

Average 2.66 ERA 3.41 RA9 1.133 WHIP 10.42 K/9
Comparison: Kade Anderson 3.28 ERA 3.38 RA9 1.063 WHIP 14.6 K/9

Relief
Agnos East Carolina 3-0 2.31 ERA 2.31 RA9 0.771 WHIP 7.3 K/9
Halvorsen Tennessee 3-3 3.81 ERA 5.19 RA9 1.058 WHIP 9.0 K/9

And all of those guys are significantly better now than they were in college
