I think McCarron was like 1-7 for 2 yards in the second half until the last drive. Loss hurt but after what happened 10 months earlier it was a drop in the bucket.

And as someone else mentioned, if we won that game we absolutely would have screwed up against Arkansas or someone. Les Miles.

I could get over that game....reluctantly because we screwed up towards the end.

It's 2014 that continues to stick with me. The bogus PF against LSU at the end . Can't tell me that certain contingencies were not implemented after BAMA's late fumble by the SEC and referees....and I hate blaming bad officiating for a loss.

Dude was hanging on our guys leg after the whistle and the LSU player gets giggled on the call.

That was not a good LSU team. Florida absolutely bludgeoned them.

To be honest, I don't think Miles wins against that Georgia team. I think we had a good enough team to beat them but Miles would have been outcoached in that game and I believe that we would have lost. He still wasn't letting Mettenberger throw enough to really utilize Beckham and Landry. In fact, that season, we never had 300 yards passing and only had 3 games, the Bama game included, where we even threw the ball 30 or more times. It wasn't until the next year that he finally let Mett throw the ball and I don't think we could have beaten Georgia just by trying to ram it down their throat. They were too good up front and too good offensively for me to think we would have beaten them that year.

I don't disagree. It was an unnecessary flag at that moment. But we've seen enough football where the "second guy" gets caught even though the first was the instigator.

The reason 2012 is worse (IMO) and is one of the most disheartening losses in LSU history is because of exactly what the OP said. If LSU wins that game there is a realistic chance they go on to win the NC. The 2014 team wasn't doing that even if they beat Alabama that night.

Someone else mentioned in here, but that game could have changed the trajectory of SEC football. If LSU wins that one they avenge the NC game loss. Les's record vs. Saban moves to 4-3 and if LSU goes on to win to win the NC Les/LSU then have 2 NC's matching Saban at Alabama.

It was there for the taking and Les flinched when he had his shot (first down ends the game without Alabama ever touching the ball again). Saban/Alabama didn't when they got theirs's.

Look at the passing numbers after the Alabama game. Mett threw for 200+ in all of them (except the bowl game). Before Alabama he only did that vs two crappy teams.

LSU was still a power team. But I think that night Mett earned the trust that would have allowed him to open it up more vs. Georgia. A Georgia team LSU pounded in the SEC Championship game (at least the 2nd half) the year before..without a semblance of a competent passing game.

Todd Gurley made the 2012 Georgia offense much, much, much more dangerous than the 2011 Georgia offense. It would have been a war. Georgia was on fire in the second half of that season leading up to the SECCG.

Les not throwing the ball on 3 and 7 and playing. For FG when we were up 3 and Matt was hot was the beginning of the end of Les. We had Bama on their heels and gave it away with conservative play calling

If Gene Smith self banned the Gator Bowl when we went 6-6, Ohio State would have been in that game.

That Loss might be the best loss in LSU history considering the atmosphere. Crazy game. Muscle vs muscle. Saban vs the grass eater.

Same man. That game will haunt me for the rest of my life. I’ll never forget that entire day.

ETA: I now feel sick to my stomach to start the work day. frick all of you

And god dammit what have we lost with college football the way it is now? Another thought that makes me sick. The sport feels so flat compared to what it was in the 2000s.

What makes you say this? They were always going to be the most talented team in the game with him at the helm. One heartbreaking loss to a rival (on the road) wasn’t gonna sink that guy. He is the greatest to ever do it for a reason.

LSU has no one to blame for that loss other than themselves. Throws the end zone on three straight plays to start OT from the 25 yard line? Cmon.

Jeremy Hill became RB1 after the Florida game and changed our offense.

He had a combined 13 carries all year before then, and 17 for 124 vs South Carolina the week after UF.

Also, that 2012 team was about as unlucky as I've seen with personnel issues from injuries (Chris Faulk, Blue who was RB1 and on a tear, the OG whose career basically ended vs UF on a concussion, a couple others), suspensions (Tyrann and Tahj Jones) and weirdness (Alex Hurst quitting).

Losing 3 starting OL in particular really hurt. Les and Stud actually wound up patching that up pretty nicely by the end of the year, all things considered.

The ramifications of Georgia winning that game and then likely the championship would have been wild to see.

Richt gets a longer leash. Hell, he might not have a leash at all after a Natty win coupled with the fact that he is such a good person. Not sure you fire a guy like that who has won a championship and you aren't worried about being involved in some scandal.

Kirby ends up at Auburn or Florida I imagine. I guess maybe Tennessee too, but he really waited for a perfect situation to open up and I just don't think he would want to go into a situation which had the systemic issues Tennessee did at the time.

Some of those big Georgia QBs that Clemson got might have chosen to go to Georgia instead. Georgia wins another championship instead of Dabo?
