Compared to guys like Kareem, MJ, and LeBron, his defensive side of the ball is far too weak to be on their level. He is the tier right below them though

I think Steph is too nice of a personality to be in the GOAT conversation… unlike legendary a-hole MJ and GM LeBron

Curry has missed the playoffs almost half his career. Give him a team with 2-3 hall of famers and look out. Otherwise, meh.

The rise of the 3 point shot is more due to the analytics movement than curry. You can win a lot of games by shooting 3s at 36%. You don’t have to shoot 3s well for it to be a good shot. That is not from Curry honestly Morey Is the most influential person on todays nba as he introduced the analytics driven approach to the league. .

Thats a very good point

When you are only good on half of the game you can’t carry a team

He can’t even carry an offense. Team offense ranking by season

25 - 13th
24 - 9
23 - 10
22 - 16
21 - 20

GSW hasn’t had an offense in the top 25% of the league in any season since KD left. he is not on the same level as the true elite guys when it comes to producing elite team offense.

idk about GOAT

he is easily a top 1-2 most influential players of all time. Because the way his ability to shoot 3s shaped basketball.

and you can argue without Curry maybe that is is James Harden or Klay Thompson who become proof of concept for the 3 point analytics but I think Curry was just on such another level it made the point so clearly

but if you look at body of work…

24.7 PPG career?
2 scoring titles?

For a guy whose main thing is shooting… he doesn’t score “GOAT” levels of points.

He hovers between average to below average as a defender.

His asst stats are nice, but not mind blowing considering who he has played next to.

2 MVPs but the first one was because the team was so good.

He’s lead the league in PER and W/S 1 times

4 rings but only 1 Finals MVP

This is such a weird, arbitrary qualifier

Has won more games than Steph, has won a higher % of his games than Steph, more 1st team all nba. More career MVP shares. Steph had more help every time they matched up. Curry doesn’t even make the playoff with the types of rosters harden was taking to 50+ wins and deep into the postseason.

Steph as a GOAT candidate is a wild take, surprised so many people here seem to agree with it.
Well then you don’t realize how many people on the MSB are dumber than Kamala voters.

These people are lacking.

Dray is also not giving Klay his flowers here either or the offensive system where they completely hunted 3 point shots for years. Dray was running around wide open because the two best 3 point shooters in the league at one time were on the same team as well as the Warriors preferred to take and 3 and finally because Dray cannot shoot and people wouldn’t guard him.

My kids and I talk about this fairly. Steph Curry changed the game to finesse perimeter shooting almost by himself.

Even now at 37, he's very often the most dangerous man on the court.

Yeah but how much of that is them just thinking you’ll probably still kick it out or miss the dunk?

And you can’t be the GOAT when for three years in your prime you weren’t even the best player on your own team.

People consider MJ the goat because the second best superstar in the mid 90’s in their prime was a fringe top 15-20 player.

What a coincidence.
