They need to invest a shite ton of money into the program.

Look at all the downvotes from the USL fans. Wow.

Bama knows where it is.
And for the love of God, ULM is not dropping down. I know that looks so good to everybody to type it out and I am sure Tech and ULL would rub one out if it actuallly happened but ULM has to stay as is for the money games. They will not get that cash to float all the other dumb sports nobody cares about otherwise.

I mean...that should just be incredibly simple to do, right?

much better conferences than ULM
Great points... but this probably isn’t true anymore... the MAIN reason ULM is where it is in football... is the failure of the program in the 90’s to recruit Monroe(Ouachita Parish) high schools... any AD with common sense would have hired a head coach with local ties... NE LOUISIANA has had plenty of players who didn’t attend one of the SEC or BIG 12 schools who should have been at ULM... Fobbs would have been a better hire ... hell anybody with local ties really...

Look, just because the number of FBS programs keeps increasing, doesn't mean there is enough talent in the country to fill up all the spots.
Louisiana, in my opinion, is too small to have four public FBS programs plus a private FBS program.
Having two FBS programs 37.5 miles apart in North Louisiana is beyond absurd.

Move to FCS and stop scheduling all power 5 OOC games. Play FCS or other G5 teams for at least 2 OOC games. I get the P5’s are money games. It’s business but damn ULM always plays like 5 of them in one season.

Thank you. I have said this only about a thousand times over the years when the ULM football sucks threads show up. The problem is that ULM isn't gonna get the Johnny 5 star players in NE LA that would be instant coffee for a program like ULM. Those kids are going to LSU, heaven forbid Bama, and WTF TCU? Knowing that you would have to coach up local talent (which takes time) and every coach at ULM knows that you are facing the gauntlet of a brutal non-conference schedule, the only real option is to get as many JUCO's as you can to at least be somewhat competitive in a hurry. Now, add decades of sucking arse (outside of 2012) and LA Tech and ULL have lapped ULM for most local talent.

There aren't too many teams. The problem is that ULM is getting rinsed in recruiting when facing other G5 schools.
Right now, LT/Tulane/UL are turning into serial bowl teams and are winning the key 3* recruiting battles that keep you in the 40-80 range instead of the 110-130 range.
They belong - they just need to stop getting their shite pushed in during the off-season....

ULM doesn't pay cost of attendance. That's their recruiting problem.

Moving to FCS would blow a massive hole into their finances.
FBS teams are now getting upwards of $1.5 million to travel to P5 schools for one and done games.
FCS schools only get around $300k.

True. I imagine if they are paying Bowden/Rich Rod salaries, then maybe the purse strings are cut and they might actually nip this. It seems very cart before the horse strategy but you have to spend money to make money so who knows?

Could they afford to if they wanted?

I get the money perspective but what’s the point of all that money if they’re never gonna be able to do anything because they’re too busy getting smashed 70-0 multiple times a season. Play OOC games that you can build on.

I’ve been told by 2 members of the ULS Board and a former member of the ULS Board that this is their last shot at being successful. If hiring Bowden and Rich Rod doesn’t open the wallets of NLA and they don’t win then ULM will drop to FCS or drop football all together.
To their credit, they seem to have heeded their warning and have made an effort to bring in some excitement. Hopefully it pays off for them.

They need to join the LHSAA and be in District 2-5A with West Monroe.

They are not averaging 40k a game. Yet.
You can't look at UCF attendance numbers because Orlando is akin to L.A. in terms of sports vs. everything else to do. Even while UCF has an undergrad enrollment of over 50,000 - it's Orlando. There's so much else going on/to do + on campus football is still a relatively new concept to UCF. Hell, they played their games nearly 30 minutes away at the Citrus Bowl until the late 00s.
UCF is also largely a commuter school with a below average size Greek life body. They just don't have the football tradition life yet.
Compared to Monroe, LA - there's next to NOTHING to do in NE LA other than go hunting. Once ULM starts winning, it will become THE social event of the entire area for baws + bawettes to see & be seen.
