Depends. Today's rules, or the rules that let Dick Butkis decapitate folks.

One of the most prolific offenses in recent memory, game changes to favor offense and penalize defenses. You think said team would be shite. You don’t know ball.
The cover 2 would absolutely wreck the 2007 Pats and any team from that era

There is a reason why even Kirk cousins used to consistently throw for 4k yards with ease….Defenses in the last 5 years have warp speed evolved. Ask Mahomes….

Tom Brady was as good at this as any QB who has ever lived. No one was better at just taking what the defense gave him than Brady. It was not unusual for the Patriots to have a RB catch 50 passes in a season. Danny Woodhead did it, Shane Vereen did it, James White did it several times, etc...

What you're ignoring is what that 2007 offense was and how it impacted their record. Then you're ignoring this:

quote:

The bigger issue would be the Pats' D against much more advanced offenses. 2007 was before the NFL took major steps forward in the 2010s. That D was built to stop 2007 running games. Big, slow LBs and lack of coverage in the secondary. They were a complicated defense....for 2007 but wouldn't be anything special in 2026. They would struggle every game to stop good 2026 passing offenses

A very nerf'd 2007 offense + a shitty D = a much worse record

Kirk Cousins has played in both eras. He used to throw for 4k yards with ease

He breaks down here how much defenses have changed to neutralize QB play. But the moutbreathers here refuse to accept it. Jsut flat out refusal to see the obvious

Just look at Mahomes. He was on the all time GOAT pace. His last 4 years he is a pedestrian QB. It’s so so much more difficult with what defenses have done recently

Aging? You telling me Mahomes hit Father Time at 28?

Liston to cousins. Go listen to anyone break down the change in defense when cover 2 and the variants started being used. Being ignorant intentionally is a bad way to go through life

A two high shell or variant there of is run roughly 80% of the time in the nfl now. Tell me how that has been done for 75 years

This is so fricking stupid

If you take Josh Allen and Burrow and throw them 20 years in the future against defenses they have not been accustomed to they will struggle as well. The top QBs thrive on pre snap more than anything else. This hypothetical fricks that completely up

Would they figure it out over time? Of course. But that isn’t the exercise

This thread is weird. Brady played 23 years and was there for it all. Going back to 2007, I see no reason he, Moss, McDaniels, and Belichick would not adapt. Brady did and won 7 times including 2019. It’s not like he’s the 1997 Denver Broncos who would’ve also likely adapted as well. 80’s and 70’s? Likely not.

Brady adapted as the changes happened organically as he was actually living it

This hypothetical is being sent 16 years in the future of evolved defense. It’s going to be struggle street for Brady and any qb ever

What do you think the Buccaneers of the late 90s and early 2000s ran almost all the time? The 2 shell goes back 40 years at least.

So a team traveling in the future doesn’t have a week to watch film on the dreaded inverted cover 2 or rotating safeties?

There are stats for all of this

2007- man coverage was run 100% more than it is today. Not my opinion, that’s a fact

2026-two high shell is run 125% more than 2007

Also a fact, not my opinion.
