re: How is Alabama so much more talented than other top recruiting CFB teams?

Mostly, yes. Most of the guys they rank as 5 stars are really good football players. It's obvious they're really good football players. Saban probably doesn't know how many stars any of the kids he offers have though, it's how you end up with a top 5 pick like Marcel Dareus or Quinnen Williams that were 3 star players. He's a better talent evaluator than you me or Barton Simmons. Any slap dick could tell you that Julio jones was destined for greatness. It takes an eye for talent to consistently be the best though. Saban has sent a pile of guys outside the top 100 to the NFL

The 10 programs that developed the most three-star (or lower) recruits into Round 1-3 picks in the last 10 years are Ohio State (14), Wisconsin (13), Boise State (12), LSU (12), Stanford (12), Louisville (11), Washington (11), Mississippi State (10), TCU (10) and Utah (10).
Im sure he is a better talent evaluator but they arent sending that many 3 stars to the NFL

now do the percentages. You just listed a bunch of programs that sign 17-25 3 stars every year. Saban signs 2-3. If you ran that for 4 stars he would be at or very near the top

Saban sold his soul and can develop players like no one else

By comparison, Alabama has had 54 players drafted in those rounds, with just six rated at three stars or below. Notre Dame (3/24), USC (2/23), Georgia (3/22) and Oklahoma (4/21) all had a similarly low percentage. That, of course, is also a reflection of how well those programs recruit.

According to slacker, the board genius, Saban only wins because of his recruiting and actually holds his team back from being undefeated every single season.

They also have a culture built to where guys want to stay for 4 years more often than they would at somewhere like Georgia, where damn near every draft eligible player runs to the NFL the first chance they get.
They did have 4 Jr's jump last year and
ALL were drafted in the 1st RD.2017 class was freakish and could possibly produce EIGHT 1st RD picks.
Hell, the LSU class in 2017 was freakish
as well...also produced four 1st Rd Jr's last year.
Not sure if Bama and LSU last year are the new norm but the 2017 "super classes" were the main reason for both teams being so dominant.

All you have to do is look at the Analyst Staff.

And why are they waiting and not transferring out? Is the money so good they can't leave?
Yes this play a role I’m sure, but by doing this players like Smith can go from 4th Round Wr deep threats to Heisman trophy top 5 picks in 1 year of being patient.

He has done a great job with coaches also.

That's gotta be it. The amazing part to me is that bama has coaches leave every year, and players transfer every year, and somehow nobody blows the whistle on the whole operation
That’s my biggest question about all this under the table money in college football. How has someone inner city poor family not blown through all the money and black mailed them for more? You would think that would happen with regularity. Get paid $100k too go to major program, flame out. Family want more or expose.
How has that never happened?

It's not just the recruiting, it's being able to retain those guys every single year. Keeping a guys like Smith and Harris for 4 years is ridiculous
They moved Harris’ family out to Tuscaloosa from California. Makes it more palatable for Najee to stay when his fam lives there.
Win every battle.

Saban and Bama are scared of ULM
Posted on 1/12/21 at 7:37 am to Jack Ruby
Because Saban is the best coach in college football history and it’s not even close

Are the other coaches that much worse with essentially the same level of talent?
You can't just look at class ranking and star ratings.
Which would be better to you:
A school that signs two 5 Star WRs, a 4 star RB, a 3 star QB, two 3 Star OL, and a 2 star DL.
A school that signs two 5 Star OL, a 4 Star DL, two 3 Star RB, a 3 Star QB, and a 2 star WR.
Recruiting ranking would be essentially the same, but the team with the 5 star OL is likely to be better since a great OLine makes 2 and 3 stars look better.

other programs needed him to be stubborn and slow to adapt. That didn't happen.
There is a reason that so many coaches visit Tuscaloosa in the offseason
