They get great players out of high school and do a far better job than anybody of developing all of them.

Some posters on here commenting as if Alabama is the only athletic program paying players/families, giving them cars, etc.

You'd have to be naïve as frick to think Alabama is doing it, but Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn and A&M aren't in order to compete.

Getting talent is a small part of it. Developing that talent and then forming a game plan that accentuates their strengths is what makes them great.

Muschamp brought in several NFL-caliber athletes with each recruiting class he had here. He just couldn’t develop them nor could he put together a decent game plan.

It's not just the recruiting, it's being able to retain those guys every single year. Keeping a guys like Smith and Harris for 4 years is ridiculous. No one else has figured that part out yet.

This. Auburn has some eligible leaving to try and make the NFL with like 5th and 6th round grades seemingly every year. Saban is convincing some of these guys to come back with 1st, 2nd, 3rd round grades. It's pretty incredible how these players buy in. Especially with the prevailing thought among these young guys to go get paid at the earliest opportunity. (Not saying that they're wrong, either. I don't blame the one bit.)

And to go back to recruiting, I remember a few years back, they had a top 100 player take a fricking gray shirt and wait a year for a scholarship. I don't remember the kid's name or how his situation panned out, but that kind of shite is just unheard of.

Honestly, it's a perfect storm of a program.

You have arguably one of the best coaches in college football history. He's won big at other stops, so it's not like he hadn't started establishing himself pre-Bama.

Throw in historically one of the better programs in CFB history. With the boosters to throw tons of money at the program for assistant salaries, facilities, etc.

It just works all in concert to make them insanely good, year in and year out.

I wanna know how they don’t win the title every year. They have by far the best coach and players every year. Seems to me titles should be a lock every year and any year they don’t win it is an epic failure. It sort of makes Bama championships empty in my eyes.

other programs needed him to be stubborn and slow to adapt. That didn't happen.

Bingo.

Ten years ago we were all sitting around thinking, “Sooner or later, people are going to stop wanting to play for/work with that a-hole”.

It never happened. As crazy as it sounds, Saban is highly underrated in one area: his adaptability.

Probably has something to do with players coming back. They feel like they are incomplete if they dont come back

Well...if Alabama boosters were bagging money for players and offering hot ladies for these recruits, wouldn’t we have had a pony express type scandal by now ? I don’t like Bama but it would seem like somebody would have went to a producer on 60 Minutes and blown this shite out of the water. Cause the NCAA isn’t fishing around Tuscaloosa.

It's not hard, but LSU fans get all giddy when a third year Soph. declares for the draft....Yeah Baby, NFLSU. Meanwhile Alabama keeps most of their monsters for 4 years.

Because they are not paying players. Someone would have snitched by now or some crazy AU or LSU fans would have dug something up. But there is nothing there to dig up. We just keep hoping there is.

Saban is the greatest evaluator and developer of high school talent in the history of the sport. He's also relentless. Marty Smith flew home with them after the 2015 title game against Clemson in Arizona and he said he watched coach Saban watch high school film of recruits the entire flight home.

I get a kick out of people saying he's a bad game day coach. Alabama hasn't lost to an unranked team in 13 years and you can count on one hand how many were close.

It's not just rankings. Saban is amazing at developing these players

They get the best players money can buy! Know how to work the system, end of story! And yes, Saban is a great coach! Why did he fail so miserably in the NFL?

Nick won with Defense.
Nick won with Offense.
Dude is a winner.

No, this would not have happened at LSU at this rate. The entire state of Alabama know who’s king, and it ain’t the Governor.

You don’t think LSU, GA, FL and Auburn are buying recruits?

Not only that they told him on signing day when he was about to have his “hat on the table” moment.
