You might be in decent shape, but your BMI says you are obese.

I know, I know. BMI doesn’t account for all that muscle you’re lugging around. Still though, you need to lose 45 pounds before you’re in the “healthy weight” category, which heavily correlates to longevity and disease prevention.

Everyone here seems to watch a lot of a sport that really annoys the crap out of them.

You'd be wrong.

I played basketball a lot growing up, and I thought I was fairly decent. When I was attending NLU, I was playing some pick up games at the intramural center and a few of the girls from the basketball team ended up on the court with us...I couldn't even get good position to rebound against the girl who was holding me. She was a lot stronger than I gave her credit for. I am 6'4" and back then I probably didn't weigh a buck fifty.

I realized real quick that my bread and butter in that game was going to be from the permiter.

Let's see...I'm short, on the wrong side of 40, and don't have any basketball skills.

So the other 9 players would all have to be playing like LSU and Miami were last night.

My aunt use to coach high school girls basketball. One summer she asked me to come practice with them when I was in the 5th grade. I felt like I was Michael Jordan out there. I was not invited back. Once 5th and 6th grade boys basketball started I was brought back to reality.

5'10" 220. 50 years old. I believe I could shoot 17% from 3, I would also set the tone defensively by fouling out in 10 minutes of playing time. I would be a good teammate with an unwavering positive attitude.

And with the 2nd pick of the Girls and Guys basketball league draft, Basura Blanco selects....little billy.

LaTech used to have a team of guys for the Lady Techsters to practice against

I would assume by the mid 80's every D1 womens team had guys from the rec center they practiced against. I had good friends that did it at LSU as well. One of them is in a Gumbo photo while at practice. These were 5'10 - 6'2 white boys who were role players on their high school teams. They would run defense/offense against the girls in set situations, and rarely had a full a scrimmage.

When they did, it was unofficial pickup games in the PMAC practice gym and my buddies asked me to play a couple of times. While not a blow out every time, we would usually run the girls off the court at 3/4 speed. We never lost. The only two girls that could hang were Pokey Chatman and Joyce Walker, who was playing overseas professionally at the time.

Chatman was the Chris Jackson of the women's team. She was tough to guard and could get her shot off and was the fastest girl with a basketball, by far, that I have ever seen. She was also EXTREMELY competitive and had no fear.

Joyce Walker would've been first team all-WNBA if they had a league at the time, but any 6'0 boy with catholic league high school experience would at least match up with her in her prime.

I was the 6'0 white boy. I played single A ball and started for three years. Made All-District 2nd team. We never won shite, and never made the playoffs. I'm not saying this as some hot shite claim to fame, but I was maybe good enough get a walk-on try out at Nicholls where I likely would not have made the team. And at 20 yrs old, I was equal (I would say better, but it was a long time ago) to 27 year old Joyce Walker, the best player in LSU history before Simone Augustus. As a side note, Walker was very gracious and a blast to be around. She would often run in pickup games in the field house and would hold her own in all but the top level games.

I mean, its LSU playing for a spot in the final four, so yeah I'm sure people watched some of the tourney games who normally wouldn't watch women's basketball. I am in that group, and while the product is ehhhhh, it was cool watching us win.

In what way? Surely you do not believe he is too fat at 6'6 260 lbs to compete with women basketball players? What do you think 5' 8" Poole weighs? Or the 6'2" chick from Utah? No way that Utah chick is under 230 lbs. But we will never know as women's basketball rosters do not include weight. If they want to be taken seriously as athletes, they should at least be comfortable enough to have their physical attributes listed on a roster.

I am thrilled LSU is in the Final Four and I will be watching the game hoping like hell they win, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking this is even remotely close to men's basketball.

I don't know what's so dumb about this. I would be getting insane rebounds and then be so far above their reach that I could just jump and hit a short layup or get fouled and shoot 50% of my free throws and still be the leading scorer. None of them would have the strength to box me out.

There are certainly better ball handlers than me so I'd leave that to my teammates, but I would hold my own in half court defense. And once I got the ball close to the basket I'd get up clean shots nonstop.

I said this in a thread last week, women’s basketball is completely watered down because of title 9.

There are great players. There just aren’t as many as men because it’s simply just not as popular for girls, and they are spread out . Every single college has a team. If the ncaa tournament was only 24 teams and half the colleges cut womens ball it significantly change the perception.

The men’s tournament grew over time because of the growth of the sport.
