We lost in the WPIAL AAAA finals (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League - quad A was the top division at the time) to North Hills high school. Lavar Arrington was a running back for them. I think I still have a scar on my back from his cleat marks while running me over. Still was a close game. We were a very good team for several years. My coach is the all-time win leader in AAAA football (top division), he had a 406-141-6 career record.
Track team finished second in the WPIAL as well, lost to Penn Hills in the WPIAL championship track meet by just a few points. We won had won the WPIAL the two previous years, so this was a bit of an upset. I was on a 4x800 team that individually went on to the PIAA state games and finished first. We had two guys on that team that went on to be very, very good college runners. It was my job to just not suck and post a good time in the leg between them

To this day, we were one play away from beating Donaldsonville (our RB tripped) and I think that would have shaped our entire senior year differently. I was an undersized and undertalented OT that still somehow was reasonably effective. I think we won 4 games that year, and I'm still about 80% bitter that I came back from catastrophic lung surgery my junior year to play my senior year and was not even an honorable mention for the "comeback player of the year" award. To this day, it is still the single most effort and emotion I have put into anything to build myself back from having 40 percent of my lung cut out, and I earned at least a goddamn mention.

Torn ACL first game of the season running back an interception, but won state in powerlifting the year before that. Now just fat and slow.

My HS made it to state in football my senior year.
I ended my career the same way it started: on the bench

I didn’t play any of the major sports. Ran CC and was mid for a district runners up team that finished 10th in state out of 25 teams or so.
Football: 6-3 regular szn then lost 48-42 on the road in the first round to the team who ended up winning state. My friends still swear they stopped them on 4th on what ended up being the winning td drive in late 4th.
Basketball: mid enough to make playoffs as a 20’s seed and lost in the first round decisively.
Baseball: was the 4th seed and lost in an upset in the second round to a team seeded in the 20’s.

Basketball lost out in the Quarterfinals.
We went on the road and beat the 4 seed as the 13 seed in the 2nd round. Great memory.
Wasn't too upset losing in the quarters because my family was flying out to go snow skiing the next day. If we had won, I was going to have to stay behind

This whole thread is pretty sad.

Got ran off the court 6-0 6-0 as the six seed on a terrible tennis team. But got well consoled by the 4 seed on the girls team so not a bad way to go out.

Beacontown high school 1985 basketball. Season started slow but our point guard Scott Howard turned into a werewolf mid year. He played as a wolf and we started beating teams by 40 points. I would sometimes eat sandwiches during the games on the court. We got to the state championship but Scott refused to play the game as a wolf. We really jelled as a team that game and won the championship. We "won in the end" because Scott discovered and accepted himself as a human being.

I was 5-8, 160 and coach wanted me to play O-Line. His roster was getting thin and I believe the team was 0 for 3 or something.
I declined because I wasn’t about to let those corn fed boys from Southwest Louisiana tear my ACL.

I can relate to John Mangum. Last game, cross town rival, I got concussed and walked back to the wrong huddle with two of my lifelong friends who played for the opposition.
Thank goodness I was able to play for the remainder of the game and several post game beers with the same guys seemed to help.
Good old days.

Football:
ended with a concussion (my 3rd). got lit up, fumbled and was out cold before my body hit the ground. threw up all over myself when they sat me up after coming to. then tried walking (ok, stumbling) to the wrong bench.
teammates played the video of that hit endlessly in locker room for next couple weeks.
30 years later, I still have zero memory of anything from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening.

Baseball lost in playoffs to the eventual state champs , 4-3.
Football team was 1-9 but did beat the eventual state champs in district play; they had Bobby Hebert and Coach O.

high school in texas from 90-94 i played in toughest 4a district in the state. 2 state champs from my district and one state runner up in 4yrs. needless to say I want to forget most of my high school football game My last game we lost to Waxahachie by 7 and they went on to win the state championship by 30. That Waxahachie team had 3 NFL players on it and 1st round baseball pick for a QB. Also the running back had the best Name Daryll Dollar.

Do you remember what your times were??
Well, I didn't run my PRs in any of those races but the district mile I think I ran 4:22 and won by 10 seconds. The 2 mile was probably 9:40ish and I won by quite a ways. At state 2 mile....and I guess it was really a 3200m, I ran 9:21. I think the guy that won ran about 9:10 .

Football - made the playoffs, lost vs. Boothville-Venice @ Ft Jackson Stadium. Those were some grown-arse men.
Wrestling - STATE CHAMPION 185 lbs. , finished the year 28-3, won 5 tournaments my Sr. year.
Baseball - chose not to play my Sr. year after lettering my FR-SO-and Jr. years. Coach was a dichkead and I said F'it.
Hung out on the T&F team and threw the javelin 167' on my last throw, HS event.
