Not sure if true but read Luka closed on a $15m house in Dallas metro last week. Means he had no idea (if true). Deal cost him $100m as well. Plus taxes costs Cali vs Tx. I guess since he’s a good actor on the court, LA movie industry might kick the tires with him for any soccer movies they have planned

I don't think he was involved in the trade talks on purpose, so unless that happened yesterday it's not likely.

Of course he didn’t admit to knowing. He’s gotta save face with his fans. Dallas fans will now watch Luka in addition to Lakers nation watching Luka

Atrociously bad but it won't happen. Nobody is walking away from being "the guy" for the Lakers.

I don't think it hits the same way for these foreign guys. He might have been really happy in Texas and would want to eventually go back. We'll see.

Like, I don't see L.A. being a big pull for Jokic at all.

Nothing would be better than to have Ballmer offer him the max (if thats possible)

If he signs a 2+1 with the Lakers he is then eligible for a SuperMax at that point.

So he lit $119M on fire by just not waiting a few months?

he waived his no trade clause pretty quickly.

He didn't have a no-trade clause. He had a $5.9 million trade kicker that would have paid him a bonus from the team he was traded to. He'll get that right back in state tax savings.

I don't think Jokic is like Luka.

Which is what he's gonna do. He's going to sign the 2+1 then just sign the super max with the Lakers.

Ballz dragging his nutz across Jeannine face again would be so amazing

They essentially called him fat on the way out. And Nico seems to be on a power trip. Probably a bridge burned.

I agree to a point. I think Nico was forced to dump him, and as I've mentioned he "maliciously complied" by making the worst deal he could that he could sell to management. He used the "fat" stories to tell ownership, "nobody wants him with his poor conditioning, this is the best I can do".

Any talk about Knecht or Reeves was Plan B: if ownership demanded more than the trade which happened, then one or both would have been included (maybe in turn for the Lakers taking more dump contracts such as Dwight Powell).

Likely, either ownership makes him the scapegoat when the trade turns out to be a disaster, or he leaves on his own. He'll go back to Nike.

And then, tell what really happened behind the scenes.

He isn’t going anywhere. This was a league engineered trade to jump start interest.

This trade was an egotistical GM trying to basically mark his dominance. It's actually pretty pathetic and pretty damaging to the organization.

Luka isn't like the average American player. He's not a Jokic level guy when it comes to things, but Europeans are nowhere near as glamour hungry as the American players are.

He not only just lost $119 million in a potential guaranteed SuperMax, but is going to lose even more many paying 1) 12% state income tax in Cali now on more than half his salary, and 2) ridiculous cost of living increase.

Even if LA can give him the extra year, he's not getting that much more given his young age.

Would be interesting to see someone screw over the Lakers and one of these major teams that keep magically getting uneven trades in their favor.

They'd be fine. AD is old and often injured, so they are free there. If Luka walked in a couple years, likely after Lebron has retired as well, they would have massive cap space to go shopping.

It would be fine.

I doubt he leaves the Lakers.

It's an International brand. He will make $50m a year in endorsements.

Also, Rob is done with Clutch. James can stay and mentor Luka this season but I would not be surprised if James is traded this offseason if he tries to strong arm short sighted decisions.

Also the Lakers can sign Luka to the max and another player as well in 2 years. They will only have Reaves, Vanderbilt, Knecht, Milton, and Bronny on the roster.

Could go get another 27 yr. old star to pair with him.
