Tiger and Iverson. We didn’t get full hype of Iverson after the arrest then Thompson not letting him do interviews

Iverson had been named first team all state QB

Ronald Curry and Terry Kirby had the hype but flames out in the pros.

Jennifer Capriati could be considered

But the fall after the initial rise probably disqualified her.

Dude that was incredible

She wins Olympic gold
The arrest
Then 3 majors 8 years later

It’s almost unheard of but Agassi did somewhat the same thing.

Agassi , Chang and Courier were considered the guys. But it was Sampras who ended up being the man of that group with Chang being the afterthought

Serena Williams is the standard bearer for teenage phenoms.

To me living up to the hype is did they deliver when they were young...not how they played 10 years down the road.

Martin Hingis won the doubles Wimbledon Title at age 15 (youngest Grand Slam Champ ever), the Australian Open Singles Title at age 16 (youngest Grand Slam Champ ever) - then Wimbledon and the US Open all in the same year of 1997, defeating Venus Williams. ...and was the best player in the world for quite awhile and youngest World #1 ever...which she held for 4 years.

Serena won her first Major at age 18.

Hingis was the ultimate phenom who dominated at an earlier age than any athlete in history.

Agreed, and soccer is in a league of its own when it comes to this because unlike here, they start their professional careers as teens.

Messi, Ronaldo, and Rooney are just 3 examples of recent players who were household names in Europe as teens and lived up to the hype.

Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant were both hyped big and both lived up to it, especially Kobe.

How do you go two pages without mentioning Wayne Gretzky? Especially after someone else said Sydney Crosby?

Maradona turned pro before he was 16 years old. I think he was still a teenager when he told his dad to stop working.

And to educate those of you who think soccer sucks, it's still considered a miracle that he won 2 Scudettos and a UEFA Cup at Napoli.

His death showed he was on a different level of global fame.
