He slowed down a little bit in his earlier time in Philadelphia

He had 35 HR and 114 RBI while hitting .260/.372/.510 in his 1st season in Philly. The only thing that’s slowed him down was when he was injured. Guy is a beast.

In baseball the guy that lived up to the hype is probably Chipper Jones. Played against him. Everyone knew he was going to be the #1 pick in the draft. Ends of a HOFer.

From my junior year in high school till the time when I stopped playing, only one person stole a base on me (I was a catcher), and it was Chipper. The only reason he got the base is because the 2B forgot to cover the bag. Ball flew over the bag as he was starting his slide. My coach was quite irate.

I wonder what led him astray from becoming the best catcher in the history of baseball

This is the kind of defense scouts absolutely drool over behind the plate.

You must not have been able to hit for shite.

Griffey Jr and Chipper may not have been as hyped because it was a different era but #1 overall to first ballot HOF for them both.

Mike Trout, consensus #1 prospect, youngest ever to win minor league player of the year... lived up to it.

He definitely didn't have the same hype in high school as Harper though, it came early in his minors career.

What records does LeBron have that will never be broken? Tiger has about 1,000

Those two and (somehow) Harold Baines are the only #1 overall picks currently in the Hall of Fame. That'll change when Joe Mauer becomes eligible.

Thank goodness that Todd Van Poppel was a shitbag.
