This is exhibit A in the case of LSU fans are complete morons. You beat him by one point in OT at home. And they were at best the 3rd best team in the SEC.

While NIL takes away one of the many advantage Saban has, he is smart enough to know that he would have to go to another blue blood to get the type of treatment he gets at Bama.
Saban gets to have the best players, two deep, on his rosters. Saban still gets favorable calls and scheduling thanks to Alumni from his school that are in the upper ranks of the SEC. Just wait till "alignment". That's going to be a joke.
Then, despite having the best players, favorable officiating, he still manages to lose one of the most important games of the regular season.....BUT.....
That's OK too. Why? Because when Saban/Bama need a MULLIGAN, they get those too.
What other school would be allowed all of those favors?
After this weekend, I can't help but wonder what a coach like Brian Kelly, or even Urban Meyer back in his hayday would have done at Bama these past years with all those advantages and the ability to not have big losses count against them.
PS - I'm NOT saying Saban isn't a great coach. Just pointing out his obvious advantages.

Where will he go? What will he do? NFL? Retirement? Run for senate so he can kick Tommy Tuberville's arse again?
I imagine he'll go to the lake house and relax

The headline is misleading. Basically McElroy just said he's closer to retirement, which is obvious.

He will coach probably until he knows he can no longer be competitive anymore.

He has to have that. And even then it’s many times not enough. See Saturday night.

Now do LSU before Saban

Greg is the dumbest smart person I’ve ever observed.
He also leans WAY too far against Alabama in some obvious attempt to distance himself from the school to seem impartial.

If Saban leaves 'Bama, LSU is set up for a 5-10 year Golden Run.
It'll be great.

Saban's entire life and identity is wrapped up in being a football coach. So I'm sure, even at 71, the thought of not doing it terrifies him. He would probably feel like he is just waiting to die.
That said, for the first time in his long career, NIL and the freedom of transfer rules have essentially shifted the balance of power to the players. He left the NFL because he didn't enjoy a position where your "employees" earn more than you and have other interests outside of football that he could not control. He could not control every aspect of the franchise like he can in college.
Prior to NIL and the portal, players couldn't be "free agents" always on the hunt for a better contract. He probably long got over demeaning himself (as all HC's have to) to recruit 16, 17, 18 year old kids. But now he has to play "GM" to those kids AND do so the entire time they are on the team. You are constantly having to recruit your current roster and potential new players. That is so much different that the environment for most of his career.
For a guy that is so demanding. So controlling. To lose a large aspect of that control can't be easy. So he very well could reach a point where he says "Im in my early/mid 70's. I've accomplished everything I could have ever wanted to accomplish as a coach. With that, I'm done trying to operate in this new college football environment."

Technically, for each day that passes, we are all closer than we've ever been to leaving our current jobs.
