The 2006 team was the best. Saw 2005-2007. That 06 with Benton, Randall, Reuben, Jomes brothers on the DL, Downs at OL before moving to DL, the DB that went to TCU, RB went to ULM, Aubrey to LSU, and Williams to Moo St.
Lawd alive. They made shaw look silly in Superdome. Beat Ouachita to a pulp. Talent wise up there with Ruston and WM best classes for sure.

Don't see any mentions on page one, but old timers have told me Ferriday had some great teams in the past.

Ferriday won state championships in 1953, 1954, 1955, & 1956.
The 54 and 55 teams were loaded with talent.
1954 1A All-State
1954 Tackle Joplin, James Ferriday
1954 Guard Brocato, Frank Ferriday
1954 Center Fugler, Max Ferriday
1954 Back Hill, Guy Ferriday
1955 1A All-State
1955 End Brocato, Tony Ferriday
1955 Tackle Long, Buddy Ferriday
1955 Guard Nelson, Manson Ferriday
1955 Center Fugler, Max Ferriday
1955 Back Hill, Guy Ferriday
1956 A All-State
1956 End Brocato, Tony Ferriday
1956 Guard Brocato, Frank Ferriday
1956 Back Daye, Donnie Ferriday
This was back when 11 offensive players and 11 defensive players were chosen for All-State. No second team. No hon. mention, and no kickers.
Louisiana Sports Writers Association Football All-State (1916-1980) ? on 14-0 productions
Ferriday guys who were on LSU's 1959 team:
51 Max Fugler center 6-1 203 Ferriday, Louisiana
33 Donnie Daye HB 5-10 184 Ferriday, Louisiana
62 Manson Nelson RG 5-9 185 Ferriday, Louisiana
New Orleans native Roger Emrich, a former PA voice for the Cowboys and a reporter for KRLD radio, told me either the 55 or 56 team was the best in the state back in the 80's. For anyone who does know who he is...

The answer is 90 Ruston. The 98 WM team is only other one I would give a chance and watched lots of years of good teams

Can't say this team's the greatest since they didn't win state but I always felt the 2006 Catholic High team my freshman year there was the best I ever saw and would've won state that year if they got out of Acadiana which I always felt was a fluke game. They weren't a superteam by any means though many went on to play college ball. From what I recall they steamrolled that season undefeated and steamrolled their 5A playoff games until they met Acadiana. I'm biased and major disrespecting Acadiana by saying that bc they did end up winning state but I was a witness that team was a well-oiled machine the entire season, it was beautiful to watch.

According to rivals.com, that Catholic team was ranked around 38th-44th in the nation. The 1996 Catholic team was ranked even higher at #10.

I DEFINITELY know the stories of 1996 with Major Applewhite and Travis Minor, that team was LEGENDARY just so happened to meet a program in West Monroe which was about to begin a legendary run of state/national dominance. Win some, lose some.

You’re thinking of the ‘92 4A state championship team.
You are correct. I didn't pay attention to the year the other poster said. Just figured he was talking about the 92 team. That was my freshman year.

The 98 WM football team (I believe). We had the pleasure of playing them twice. Once in the regular season and once in the first round.
21-0 in the rain
66-0 in the freezing rain.
I think all 11 defenders ended up signing, but not all in the same class. Bradie James, Jason Ledoux, and Brian West all ended up at LSU. Andrew Whitworth was playing TE as a sophomore. At halftime of the playoff game they sent all the starters home to get out the weather, and they proceeded to beat our brains in with the 2nd and 3rd string kids.

Newman with Peyton? Peyton never won state at Newman. Closest he ever came was the semis, losing to eventual champ Haynesville.

Two games I would pay silly money to see would be '90 Ruston vs '98 West Monroe, and the other would be '73 Captain Shreve vs '75 St Augustine.

Not really into high school football like a lot of the guys here, but the best team(s) I’ve ever personally saw were the squads from Evangel from late 90’s to early 00’s. Good lawds, talk about some massacres. Those poor high school defenses trying to stop a mid major college air raid squad. Bloodbaths.

I don’t know about the greatest but I think it was 1980 - 1981. Plaquemine had a team that either no one scored on or it was less than something like 7 points a game. I forgot how many shutouts they had.
I think they made it to quarter finals?

Nobody on this board except maybe one or two people have seen enough high school football to answer this question truthfully

Whichever team it was that had Joe McKnight and beat the brakes off Hoover (who won the state title that year).
