Why not? He was on some awful teams and all he's ever done is produce.
When Frank retires and 5 years later someone asks you who are your top-5 RBs....will here be on your list? No
The HoF should be for guys that not only had great stats but were in fact all-time great players

More rushing yards than anyone except Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith, even in an era when running is deemphasized, and you don’t think he’s a first ballot HOFer?

Yes. And that is widely shared.
Curtis Martin wasn’t first ballot either. Retired 4th in the list.
Chris Carter wasn’t first ballot. It goes on and on.

Isaac Bruce is still not in the HOF despite retiring as the no.2 all time leader in receiving yards (now no.5).

On 3,468 attempts.
Barry had 3,062.
That's almost two seasons extra on rush attempts.

Anyone surprised that Curtis Martin is so high on the list? Seems like all the other names got their respective recognition. Martin seems like the forgotten one.
Kinda like Gore

I honestly didnt know he was that far up there. I should know this, but if a random dude asked most of us in the street who the active all time leader was, we would probably say AP....

While not as talented as some of his list peers, I think what he’s been able to do in terms of longevity/productivity at a position with a very young prime is extraordinary. Should be in the hall for that alone.

He's the Art Monk of HOF running backs.

If you include high school, college and NFL rushing totals Emmitt Smith ran for nearly 32k yards and score 324 total touchdowns from 1984 to 2004. Only one other player in history has run for more than 25k yards combined across all three levels, and no other running back is within 80 of his touchdown total.
Holy frick

My biggest problem with Sanders was he was never a complete back. He didn’t block very well, was just an ok receiver and frequently came out of the game inside the 5 because he struggled getting tough yards when he didn’t have large areas of the field to dance around defenders. Detroit got tired of him taking three yard losses near the goal line trying to finesse his way in.
Payton and Emmitt were two of the greatest blocking RBs in history, both were excellent receivers out of the backfield, and both are in the top 5 in goal to go rushing efficiency.

Where would Marshall Faulk rank in goal to go?
I never saw an RB better at knifing into the end zone inside the 2.
