NIL deal with Miami mega-booster John Ruiz for $9.5 million. The same sources said Rashada turned down an offer from Florida’s Gator Collective for $11 million

This is such a joke. NIL was sold last summer as being independent of choice for college and really independent on success in college sports. It didn’t have to allow this crap directly from boosters, a collective of them, or even ones like Texas boosters set up originally based position on football team. This guy would have already been earning this kind money with his individual brand and likeness which would have followed him to wherever he chose to go to college if it was based on the NIL the NCAA had to stop prohibiting. NCAA is used to schools turning themselves in to avoid harsher penalties or others to rat on their competition, and I guess thought standards with NIL would be too hard for them. The transfer portal has made more of a joke.

So absurd. Que the you must hate capitalism peeps. No, I hate what college athletics has become. Complete insanity.

I heard about the 8 million deal for the Tenn QB just this past week too. Good grief.

$9.5 million, not for a 5 star prodigy, who even then is never a sure bet, but a damn 4 star...it's ruined, completely ruined.

Multiple sources told On3 Rashada agreed to a NIL deal with Miami mega-booster John Ruiz for $9.5 million.

How is this not pay-for-play? This goes entirely against the spirit of NIL and anyone with a brain saw this coming a mile away.

I don't see a problem for a couple of reasons...

1. The players don't give a shite about the schools anyway. If it's NIL money or going to a program that will help them get drafted #5 instead of #6 or transferring to start instead of be a backup (Hurts and Burrow) they are doing what's best for themselves. The fans are cheering for laundry either way.

2. The world has changed drastically for young people in terms of opportunities to make money. Look at all the 20 y/o college age girls on IG and TikTok making bank. The Charli D'Amelios and Addison Raes. Tweny years ago they would have been normal high school and college students.

Major college football players are among the most talented and recognizable people in the country. And they are at the forefront of an industry that brings in untold sums of money.

frick your desire for so-called amateurism. That's been a joke for decades. Let these guys get as much money as they can as early as they can.

It'll take a few cycles of getting burned by the Brock Berlin and Spencer Rattlers of CFB to put this on ice.

at you thinking this has anything to do with ROI. These boosters are so obsessed with bringing a championship to their school, they will continue to throw millions of dollars around in hope of winning one for their team. They also know if they won’t play ball, other teams will.

This is basically high stakes gambling for people with millions of dollars to throw around for fun.

How is this even sustainable?

It isn't. Boosters won't pay $100 million for every signed class. It's not affordable and it isn't sustainable. Good luck to the $9.5 million dollar quarterback with the Dollar Store offensive line.

Yep, it's going to become awful pretty quickly. Worst thing to happen to college sports in forever.

Agreed. I loved college football. Loved the bowl games. Loved to go to signing day bash when it was free and not a big deal. Loved to go to games and watch the band play. Loved to watch kids grow in the program.

Everyone wanted a playoff but I liked the bowl games. Now it’s playoff or bust.
I wanted them to put a salary cap on coaches, pay the kids a better per diem and send the rest of the money to the academic side. Nope, here’s NIL.
Kids used to stay at a school and transfers were rare. Now it’s year to year contracts with a free agent transfer portal. You’re a smaller school with a good player? Hope you enjoy that one year because he’s gone next year.
Loved the tradition and band playing; now it’s piped in music and huge productions.
Etc. etc. etc.

I’ll just watch the NFL (which Goddell is trying to ruin too.)

TL;DR - College football isn’t as good anymore. Get off my lawn!

I wonder how much of this big money is actually guaranteed . Is there something in the contract that says he has to start or take a snap? Is it a “oh, if you win the natty, then the money comes…”

NIL wasn't supposed to be free agency. This is garbage.

Garbage? A kid is being paid what someone is willing to pay him. Sorry it might negatively effect a sports team you like, I guess? But this isn’t garbage. If someone is willing to pay, these kids should secure the bags

It sounds like people with an interest in inflating NIL deals throwing numbers out without basis

Show me the contract or forget it

This lawyer sure is putting his name out there. He also "brokered a $8 milion deal with unknown player". How do we know this?

1. Yeah, and if you turned out to be a better employee than expected and had the opportunity to move on to a better position you would do it too. Why limit the talented player?

2. And if the player at the smaller program turned out to be a lesser player than expected they would recruit someone better and put his arse on the bench. It works both ways. There’s no loyalty in this business. The players and coaches are all using both the school and each other for their personal benefit.

3. If major college players weren’t worth the money they’re getting they wouldn’t be getting it. frick everyone who thinks major college athletes shouldn’t get every dime they can so you can pretend some 5 star from California really gives a shite about Alabama or Florida State or whoever.
