OSU's QB has an NIL deal worth 2 million-ish I think - 9.5 for a player that hasn't played a single down is fricking ridiculous.
Are you talking about the kid that immediately transferred to texas after the season was over?

He's talking about CJ Stroud. (I think)

I remember when posters here said that only a handful of players would make more than a few thousand bucks

It's not affordable and it isn't sustainable.
There are about 7-10 programs that can do this. For example just about every 'name' program in Texas can do this - Texas, A&M, SMU, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech all have FU money to throw around if they want to. The want has to be there. Southern Cal, UCLA, Cal Berkley, can do this also. Add Miami to the list that makes 10. So yes, it actually is sustainable to the non poor schools. Programs like Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, etc are going to get decimated by NIL. They can't afford to keep up.

Frick this. Also it’s gonna cause some locker rooms to mutiny . The 8 million dollar freshman not playing as much as he thinks he should , threaten to transfer to play more .
... absolutely ...
something called "animosity" will be part of the team
TPS - terminal portal syndrome - will set in and these overpaid , overhyped players will become "traveling nurses"

You went too dumb in the other direction

Every one of those schools has more money than Alabama ever will. It's why your head coach is throwing such a tantrum over NIL. He can't outbid any school I listed.

The fact that you have to "outbid" all these schools to just land a recruit says that all that needs to be said of where college sports are going.
I don't find these things sustainable though.

Somehow I feel like they have more “want” than some of the schools you listed
And y’all are gonna think Saban and Dabo hacked the sport when they get kids paying less NIL than others

NIL wasn't supposed to be free agency. This is garbage.
I’m actually offended when people act surprised at this outcome.
Now, I’m actually in favor of players being able to make their own money based on their name, image, and likeness. This is America, and they should be free to earn money. But I’m not going to pretend like I didn’t know what was coming.

Are they all going to throw as much money at their football team only? No, some will but most won’t. The fact that you included Cal and UCLA in there is a joke. They don’t care about football enough to throw crazy amounts of money at it compared to Bama or Clemson

Why is it that all the hardcore right leaning posters here are so anti-capitalist when it comes to kids getting a payday? Seems extremely hypocritical. Must be because it is.

Certain schools can point to who is developing them and what contracts their guys are getting in the NFL. Denzel Ward just got 5 year $100.5 million. Wilson and Olave got #10 and #11 money. Alabama's guys get the same as do guys from a couple of other programs.
I think Saban, Dabo, Ryan Day and others can point at the long term money when recruiting. Then the school puts the NIL in place once they're on campus. Some other schools don't have that luxury and are throwing stupid money out of desperation.
The elites are selling the long term money to the recruits and telling them NIL money will be there once they get on campus.

There's only so much booster money to go around so at some point there will have to be decisions made about how much money goes to NIL and how much goes to facilities and sweetening coaches compensations/paying buyouts.

Exactly. Just look at what schools are throwing the stupid money around.

They were already getting a payday...a free education, free food, free tutors that basically do their work for them, and many were getting under the table payment

So you're against the free market then. You should just stay at your current position and turn down any future raises then.
