tuck rule?

I don't think the tuck rule was ever changed.

The Bert Emanuel play where the ball hit the ground and he still had control, but it was ruled incomplete. Possibly costing the Bucs a Super Bowl trip in 1999.

Now, the ball can hit the ground as long as the receiver remains control throughout.

Removal of substitution restrictions in football, ending the platoon era. This created specialty players and basically made it impossible for the service academies to be to competitive.

Integration. Many sports. Not a change in the rules of the actual game as it's played, but still...

The new forward-pass rule wasn’t universally popular, and for good reason. If a team failed to complete a forward pass, the ball went over to the opponents at the spot where the pass attempt ended. Furthermore, pass interference didn’t exist. If you saw a potential receiver, you simply tackled him, with no penalty to fear. A pass had to be thrown from at least five yards behind the line of scrimmage, and toward a point at least five yards to the left or right of the center. Eventually these rules were changed, making the forward pass an even more formidable weapon.

Prior to 1992, a defender in soccer could pass a ball back to the goal keeper, and he could pick it up with his hands. This is no longer allowed.

You people think soccer is slow and boring now?

First one's not really a "rule" change. Second I agree.

Hence the gridiron.
