That’s code talk for “more SEC coverage”. I’ll believe it when I see it...

Now the question is--how bad do they overcorrect? Every article and segment doesn't need to be about ULM, Texas State, and the battle to get to the Boca Raton Bowl.

true but there are ways to track this stuff and ways to improve.

It helps ratings for all games if they’re shown respect by the talking heads. The SEC will still be great but they don’t need to tear down other conferences unnecessarily to drive that point

Let the numbers talk. My favorite hypothetical is if the Sun Belt and other conferences were to win all those “money” games they schedule on the road early in the season. That’s basically what happened with the Sun Belt and the Big 12 early in the season last year.

College football is in an unhealthy place as it's been in a long time. It's profitable but fan interest seems to be on a persistent downward trend.

this.

although for different reasons, college basketball is a shell of what it once was, and with the exception of march madness, the sport is on life support.

it would be a shame if college football suffered the same fate.

It was almost like they were doing a parody show as much as they covered the playoff teams vs the rest of the teams combined last year. Before the season even started they were debating ohio st vs clemson vs bama and who was better? They would do great to wait on previewing those matchups when they are actually scheduled

I don’t. There is no need for every Cowboys-Giants game to be on national TV when both teams suck.

When you focus on a small subset of teams, you miss the opportunity to develop interest in other teams who might appeal to casual fans. MLB’s national profile has cratered in part because Yankees and Red Sox became ESPN’s sole baseball focus. MLB still does well locally because people want to see their teams not a handful of teams shoved down the nation’s throats.

The bowls suck now. What's your point?

They didn't suck during the BCS era

They started sucking when the playoffs started

Now they're going to suck even more

Because there wasn't 30+ bowl games and opt outs.

Nothing has changed about who goes to the Citrus Bowl or Outback Bowl, or any of the other Marquee bowl games not included in the New Years 6. And nothing will change with a 12 team playoff, either.

If bowl games suck, it's because of players and schools not caring, and putting crappy teams in bowls that don't deserve to be there. Neither of those has anything to do with the Playoff, other than players not wanting to play anymore if they aren't in the playoff.

So basically, bowl games suck now because of the entitled generation making up the players on those teams.

I’m watching LSU. I’m not going to watch two shitty teams over a good team just because you want to be “fair” to the little guys.

Even if they are playing Bama? Or Troy?

I, for one, welcome more in-depth analysis and discussions about Middle Tennessee State.

So stoked!

Great idea. Let's spend more time celebrating mediocrity. This is the new AmeriKKKa and excellence is over-rated in this new world we are creating. In fact, our new goal should be to celebrate the team that finishes precisely in the middle while still being the most trans-friendly.

frick the small schools. I am sick of this everyone needs a chance BS.

This will never happen, but the big 5 and Notre Dame need to split off and form 4 super conferences, each with two divisions.

The winners of the divisions play each other in a conference title game and the 4 title game winners have a playoff.

There you go. 8 Team Playoff.

It was worse than that. It would be the 4th quarter of a close game in CUSA and they would stop talking about the game and talk about the CFP instead.

For a very long stretch there was nothing of value to see at LSU outside of the SEC schedule - the last big nonconference game was VTech before Texas came in, everything else was sent to neutral sites which freakin' BLOWS. I get the point is for recruiting, but imagine telling your season ticket holders to frick off while sending their home half of a home/away matchup to Houston and Dallas. I am glad this trend is dying and it needs to be completely wiped out. On campus games are part of what makes CFB great, not NFL stadiums.

You can thank Saban for it. He wanted a recruiting pipeline to the Atlanta area and had the Chick-fil-A kickoff out there a couple years in a row and then it expanded to Dallas area and never slowed down.

Remember a bit ago when they said they were going to ratchet back the political/SJW content? How’d that go?

Not great, but they did end that awful Jemele Hill sportscenter in primetime. That was an atrocity. It made my dad, me, and my friends all stop watching ESPN when we got home from work, which is when I usually tuned in with my post-work beer.

Both of these are true.

And they'd have massive emphasis on the CFP selection and ranking each week.

Honestly, I think they should show the Coaches/AP polls next to CFP polls and they shouldn't have dedicated shows for it until the very end of the season. Just release it Monday/Sunday morning like the other polls.
