The games are still determined on the field. This isn’t a sport that has a best of five or seven series. One flat game and you’re cooked.

Somewhat. The TV networks have a stake in this also. If the games were all blowouts or 6-3 type games they'd lose alot of viewers. They are paying billions annually for the product so the NFL will do everything they can to insure viewers.

Nope. Folks just want something fun to believe in whenever their favorite team loses.

The fact is, referees are incredibly imperfect. Many are simply incompetent. Thus, they miss calls all the time.

The Rams ranked 29th in viewership last year. Their game against the Vikings was the second least watched of Wild Card Weekend only ahead of the Ravens-Steelers game that was on Amazon Prime. Why would the NFL rig viewers for a team that doesn’t bring in viewers? And how do you explain the Cowboys not making a conference championship game since 1995 if the NFL rigs games? Imagine how much more money the league would make with Cowboys deep playoff runs.

I don’t think games are straight up rigged. I think that would involve too much to keep quiet for this long. Do I think there’s preferred outcomes and refs may be encouraged to officiate games certain ways to get these preferred outcomes? Potentially.

Only part I disagree with is the “potentially.” I think it’s a for sure.

Tim Donaghy told us all how they did it in the NBA, no reason to think the NFL doesn’t when you have more refs, more potential ways for refs to step in, and more consequential impacts from officiating. Just how officials call PI and holding changes the game.

I've seen this guy's videos. That's NOT how the NFL is altering games. That dude is a moron but hilarious at the same time.

We're going to disagree about the rigging of games, but I'm happy you at least see that that guy has no idea what he's talking about. He's literally schizo posting Every single dropped ball, broken tackle, or missed assignment is some form of scripted acting according to him.

I think there have certainly been instances of rigged games, but by and large, officials are just bad at their jobs and/or want to protect other officials. But, even as bad as they are, we saw how bad they can REALLY get with the replacement refs.

Not to excuse the no call in 18, and I am generally anti official, but you gotta remember these are middle aged men running full speed trying to watch and officiate the fastest, strongest, and most athletic 25 year olds on the planet, in real time. They don't get the benifit of replay on most penalties, whereas we get slowed down perfect angles of everything. I attribute a TON of it to human error.

Also, you'd think after 85+ years, someone would come out and expose the NFL of rigging a game. It's yet to happen, and no, I don't mean some wop mobster talking about paying off a couple of college kids.

Mic drop.

They don't understand the one unchangeable, undeniable truth about football, as shared with me years ago by a wonderful old high school and college football coach who led my alma mater that's attached to my posting handle to an NCAA Division II championship.

You can have a great week of practice.

You can be completely healthy.

You can have a great game plan.

You can execute that plan to absolute perfection.

You can, by accepted standards, have markedly superior talent to your opponent.

But you can still get your arse beat.

Because the one unchangeable, undeniable truth about football is s**t happens.

That goes over fans' heads because they think there can be absolute certainty if a, b, c, x, y and z happen just like they're supposed to.

There can't be.

What does any of that have to do with the Nola no call?

What did you think about the no call when the Saints grabbed Goff’s facemask about 5 minutes earlier?

It’s impossible to rig. People can’t keep their mouths shut. If it ever has happened, someone would tell the world

Out right rig games? No, too many ppl involved in a game to straight up rig it and it not become public knowledge at some point.

I do believe that they let refs know of a desired outcome in a roundabout way . I believe officials try to steer games toward the desired outcome in order to stack the odds.

Huge different between a missed facemask and a pass interference that was intentional but was ignored by the entire league.
