Googled Tatum just to verify where he played his college ball. I see your reasoning for his defense even though I already had a good idea.

If he hadn't gone to OSU, honestly, I probably wouldn't have defended him here. I'd still have the same opinion, though, whether he went to Penn State, Oklahoma, USC, or any other place (not dirty), I just wouldn't have taken the time to post and defend him in this thread.

Dale Hunter? What? He was just finishing his check! He didn't know a goal had been scored. Why would ol' Dale lie? Besides, who hasn't wanted to break Pierre Turgeon's jaw? (Hunter is the first -- and only -- player to record 1000 points and 3000 penalty minutes). Actually, even the players Hunter played against will now say nice things about him.
BTW - the correct answer is Ulf Samuelsson. He took stick fouls to a new level. It spoke volumes when I think Tie Domi laid him out with a sucker punch and the rest of the league took up a collection to pay his fine. (yup -- looked it up. It was Domi)

seriously? I mean, I'm not the biggest NBA fan, but I've never heard of Stockton being dirty. What did he do?
educate yourself. heres a link.
hes number 5 on the list
Please. This meme of Stockton being dirty has been ridiculous from day one. He was an undersized guy in a league of giants handing out no more punishment than he ever received.
On top of that, "dirty" implies trying to hurt people. I'd be surprised if anyone who played their careers against Stockton has anything other than utter respect for him. He holds at least 2 NBA records that have no chance of ever being broken. In fact, I'd argue his assists record is the most untouchable record in all of sports.

Dale was a rough rough player, but I'm loathe to call him a scumbag. He's one of those athletes who is a total animal during games, but it is beloved as a real gentleman in real life. The best is when he was given the penalty box from the Cap Centre, but the staff gave him a Diet Coke to go with it, since he was always in the box, they kept the penalty box stocked with Diet Cokes for him.
The Turgeon hit was absolutely one of the dirtiest hits ever, but he did not have a long list of truly evil hits like Ulf did. He didn't knee on knee guys and he didn't commit those stick fouls, which is the real mark of a dirty player. Lived in DC, and I root for the Caps as my team behind the Flames, who got me into hockey as the "blue collar" antidote to Gretzky. To all you old timers, two words: Lanny MacDonald. You understand.

I can think of some baseball records that are more untouchable:
-- Hugh Duffy's .439 average in 1894. No one has even hit 400 since 1941.
-- Ty Cobb's 511 wins. He pitched in the day of three-man rotations, much less five. He's ahead of the closest guy by nearly 100 wins (417 by Walter Jonhson). The closest anyone has come in the past 50 years is Maddux's 355.
-- Matt Kilroy struck out 513 batters in 1886. Randy Johnson might be the best K pitcher ever, and the closest he came was 372. Nolan Ryan only got 383. Unbelievable record.
-- Speaking of Cy Young, he had 749 career complete games. He's 100 ahead of the #2 guy, Pud Galvin, and 200 ahead of Walter Johnson. Unbreakable.
But I agree with your point on Stockton. He's not the dirty player he's made out to be.

Albert Haynesworth gets a dishonorable mention for stomping an opponents FACE with his cleats.

Almost as bad as the Hansen brothers in "Slapshot".

Wait, so now baseball is a viable sport?

Safety for the Eagles in the mid-to-late '80s, Andre Waters....had the nickname of "Dirty Waters" (given to him by Dierdorf)
Pretty interesting stuff in the Retirement/Death section of his Wikipedia page regarding concussions
