Plenty of things to discuss, particularly the looming of a strike. Will keep OP updated throughout the next few months

2 newsworthy things to start the off season:

quote:

Houston #Astros owner Jim Crane plans to sit down with Dusty Baker in the next few days to iron out a one- or 2-year contract.

quote:

Astros pitching coach Brent Strom said he won’t return as Major League pitching coach

I'll let you guys soak in those 2 tidbits and take it from here

It was, indeed, a good run.

But not a great one.

I'm going to be less active next season if more Dusty Ball is in our future.

I said it at the end of the other thread but Bob Nightengale tweeted the Baker contract post. I’m not buying it yet, though I won’t be surprised if I’m wrong.

But to me, it reeks of Baker trying to put pressure on Crane to bring him back. Nightengale is tight with Barry Bonds so I think Dusty is his source on this, not Crane or Click.

First thing that needs to be addressed this off-season (after finding a new manager of course) is figuring out wherever the frick the offense disappears to during the World Series. Watching another team celebrate on your home field while you get shut out or shut down is getting old. We’ve lost 6 out of the last 7 and 9 of 12 overall at Minute Maid park.

I’ve always followed the Astros (I’m 32) but didn’t seriously get in it till 2011 or so with prospect tracking and whatnot.

With George gone, and now Correa, it really does feel like the end of an ERA. LMJ is basically the elder statesman now. Feels weird

Not sure if I can invest my time and energy as before. Maybe it’ll feel different from Spring Training

We are sitting pretty next year with everyone returning. Add a few pieces and we will be fine

Correa to Miami.

I’ll keep this here for the duration of the offseason to see how far off I am.

The offense disappearing in spurts is not a new thing with this team. It’s happened so many times. They just happened to disappear at the wrong time. Not shocked.

Not sure that is a good thing.

Altuve is clearly regressing, Bregs has been in a 2 year rut, Yed has shown to be a postseason choker outside of 1 series, Brantley will be 35, Yuli will be 38. The only hope for anyone to really get any better is Chas/Meyers

Most of our starting pitching outside of Lance can’t put anyone away in the postseason.

Honest question from a Braves fan...why are people crapping on Baker? His teams always seem to do very well everywhere he goes.

Feels like his teams do well in spite of him, not because of him.

And obviously he’s never won a WS

He was maddening to watch on a day to day basis throughout the regular season. He admittedly exceeded everyone's expectations in the postseason with some of his decisions working out, but it's just not a great fit

It's been very clear our GM doesn't see eye to eye with him. That's the biggest reason I want him gone. I want our GM picking his guy and not having our manager only get hired by the owner for good PR purposes following the scandal

Correa is gone, do they have an in house replacement or try to make a run for someone like Seimen who will cost less and for less years.
