why was archer so god awful last year? Not just the losses but why did he give up so many home runs? Was his velocity off? He still struck out 230+ i see.

Ted is the future. Springer will be part of the package.

Let's talk what it would take to get Archer with Springer as the centerpiece.
Plus, let's say Fowler is signed to replace George.
NOTE: I am not endorsing the strategy, just wondering if it could work.

Make it a 3 way deal.
Send Springer and Tucker to Tampa
Reed, Martes and a Tampa prospect or two to KC
Archer and Lorenzo Cain to Houston.
I'm probably asking for too much. Yeah that's too much.

I'm going to stomp around like a little girl if we trade Springer for Archer.

Going to take more than that to come away with archer and cain.

I believe that we will not make a trade for an sale or archer type. Yall are talking about it for nothing.

A MLB team's fanbase enjoying a discussion about hypothetical trade offers & other moves we would like to see for said team during the winter meetings - how dare we!?!

McTags was on PGS this morning and he said he doesn't expect a trade for a TOR starter. Said Luhnow is comfortable going into the season with the current rotation.

I call bullshite. No way in hell Luhnow is comfortable with the current staff. He'd be gambling his job. He doesn't strike me as the gambling sort.

I don't see how that's any different from what I said, but okay.

Here's the link to the Tags conversation.
Mark Berman interviewed Crane the day the Beltran news broke and Crane said they would be looking to acquire pitching at the meetings. Did not specify what caliber pitching.

I'm sure they would if the right deal doesn't come along, but they've filled basically every need aside from a top starter and LH reliever. With three months left until spring training I would imagine they will be looking pretty hard at deals for a starter with so many other holes filled

Reid Ryan's interview earlier in the weekend I think made the most sense. Basically teams don't make it through a season with only 5-6 SP on the roster so it would be nice to add depth there. I don't think we trade for the TOR either, but I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in another SP at some point. You still have free agent guys like Ivan Nova or Jason Hammel available (I think). Stros might kick the tires on trades, maybe even for cheaper guys like Odorizzi, but ultimately I think we just sign one of the remaining free agents after the winter meetings for cheap depth.
edit: MLB network just proposed Astros signing Justin Turner and then using Bregman to land Sale. Don't shoot the messenger.

Yeah even though Tags said he doesn't expect a TOR starter trade, I still would expect something. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them sit pat and see how Keuchel and McCullers start the year and then maybe make a move at trade deadline.

I think at the least they will add another arm for cheap whether that's through FA or a small trade
I keep forgetting they signed Morton though so maybe not. I guess the rotation would be DK McCullers if he's ready Jabroni Morton and one of Fiers and Musgrove on opening day if Devenski stays a reliever.

If this rotation makes makes him comfortable, he needs to find another profession.

Just saw on crawfishboxes that yanks could have interest in Fiers or McHugh
I can't access the link on my work computer so not sure what the write up says.

The Astros are reportedly shopping two starting pitchers that could interest the Yankees at the Winter Meetings, Colin McHugh and Mike Fiers.
