well we could certainly try to match those big 3 up with a big 3 of our own but you seem content letting mchugh have a go at it bc he won 19 games recently or fiers bc he struck out nearly 200. Im the one saying its ok to lose 1 bat and some prospects to get that horse to matchup with them you're the one fighting against it bc you want some guys who are a few years away to not go.

Can I just point out that almost every DATer hates Mike Fiers as much as you do

I totally agree with you and have said multiple times this offseason if it's gonna be one of our core guys traded then I'd prefer it be Springer
I think you're confusing what everyone is saying. We just aren't on board with trading springer and all of our best prospects for Sale. Especially with how well Martes has developed. And nobody is implying they wouldn't trade Springer for Sale straight up
And you know damn well IF we were (don't think we are) to enter the season with the roster as it currently stands, if we are in 1st place in July we'd most definitely be dealing for a starter before the deadline

assume you dont remember kevin brown doing that to us in 1998
And who was the Astros ace when that happened? I forget.
Posted on 12/5/16 at 5:17 pm to High C
The big unit but we didn't lose bc of him,he threw gems. We lost bc our bats couldn't hit an opposing ace and Greg Vaughn hit a lucky bomb off randy and leyritz hit a lucky bomb off Wagner. We had one of the best lineups ever that year and great pitching shut us down. Randy made 1 mistake in game 1 to Greg Vaughn,id take that all day vs most of the trash in our rotation and death by 1000 cuts.

Good to see Melancon get paid. But did the Giants really need more pitching??
Posted on 12/5/16 at 6:25 pm to Floating Change Up
The Giants had the worst pen in baseball so yea, they needed him

No surprise, chisox wanted bregman in astros package. Also no surprise, astros won't deal him.
Back the frick off White Sox.

If Sale does go to the Nationals, I wouldn't be surprised for the Astros to offer a lot of money for 5 yrs to EE with a one year opt-out clause. If he has another great year he may decide to hit FA again next year and his market might improve since it won't cost a team a 1st round draft pick.

As a White Sox fan it is a consensus that the White sox do not want Springer in return for Sale. While is he a great player the White sox are looking to rebuild by acquiring young controllable talent (Springer is 27 with 4 years of club control). A potential package would most likely have to include Bregman because of the other suitors for Sale.

Most know this. Springer is too old to fit the timeline of a rebuild.
Sounds like Sale is about to head to the Nats though.

Astros might move on to someone like Archer now. If Nats don't have to give up Turner to get Sale, TB probably can't expect to get Bregman in return for Archer (assuming that's what they would've wanted). It would still take our top prospects, but might be worth a look if asking price is just prospects.

Word is Lucas Giolito would go to Chicago. Last year's #5 prospect who made it to the majors last season.

Yeah true, he threw like 20 IP in the bigs I think. But still, Bregs was considered the top prospect by mid year in some rankings and he played months in the bigs. Still think TB would have to come down from him if that's who they wanted.

We should get all in on Archer.
Give them a Ted Tucker package and see if they'll bite.
There's too many unknowns with the rotation. I mean if LMJ has setbacks again, and Keuchel doesn't bounce back, we could be in trouble.
