I'm excited for the DAT aftermath when DNCrane names a female GM.

I am still pretty sad today and my college football team will only perpetually disappoint so I don’t have that to fall back on like most of you baws

Still in mourning

I might wear black all year for every game.

Come to think of it; the ALCS champ shirt is black.

Never forget.

I’m still bummed.

Day one post- Hunch Ludlow LLC

Bought out of moral bankruptcy. We're a valued subsidiary of Crane Worldwide now.

The DAT is now in an evaluation period but all forms of changes will be considered. A complete overhaul is a possibility.

Speaking of complete overhaul... I'm hesitant to share this, but I will anyway. I was talking with someone that works in the analytics department of a west coast team. I've known him through my son's baseball team, but rarely get to talk to him because he's only here in town during the off season.

Basically, he indicated that a lot of what we feel is true, probably half of the MLB teams have some system of sign-stealing of various forms. But he feels the far bigger Astros problem is what is NOT stated in Manfried's report, which is the true reason Luhnow was fired yesterday. Apparently, during the course of the investigation, the DOI discovered some activities that Luhnow and his direct reports were participating that would bring a HUGE amount of negative media attention to MLB (not just the Astros).

The firing of Luhnow and Hinch was left to Crane, purely for optics -- but the actions itself were negotiated between Manfried and Crane prior to publishing the report. There are rumors that Astros brain-trust is guilty of questionable practices when negotiating with other teams (using personal dirt). This is what that ambiguous paragraph of "culture" was all about. I don't think this problem will go away anytime soon, and I think it will actually get worse.

As for an overhaul -- expect an Astros fire sale over the next 12 months. Crane is pissed that none of the players spoke up. They all knew, and they all are subject to be traded.

Anyway, I don't put a 100% confidence in the source because he is obviously biased. He also tried his best to make me feel guilty for continuing to be an Astros fan - like somehow I condone or am complicit in the Astros cheating. Because of that, I question his account of the situation. That said, he definitely works in the front office of a MLB team, so I do think there is probably some truth to what he is saying.

I really don’t get this one. The only real trade that you can argue that we fleeced the other team was Gerrit Cole. JV wasn’t regarded as the top prize in fact he was 2-3 down the list of SPs on that market. Greinke cost a lot. Other than that it was draft picks and shrewd free agent moves during his tenure. And one really really dumb move to bring in that rat mike fiers

My sources say that Buck Showalter was seen getting off the elevator at Minute Maid this morning

Lame if true.

Great if I can go back to free front row upgrade days.

Might as well fire sale everything and bring back LJ Hoes and Gregorio Petit at this point IMO

Would be so dumb not to hire GM first then let him make the manager hire

Hinch and Luhnow were on the same page about everything and that played a big factor into our success IMO

Yep. GM first.

Nothing is worse than when a team hires a coach first and the new GM doesn’t like the coach because the coach doesn’t share his vision and doesn’t manage in a style that matches how the GM built the roster.

Yup. I don’t really want Showalter but that’s my biggest takeaway from this, that him and probably his son really are going to be heavily involved in the front office side and do dumb shite like hire a manager before you even hire a GM who knows what he’s doing. Awful.

You'd think Espada would be the easy choice as he was doing final interviews. He knows the players and the culture of the locker room.

I didn't read any of the details of the report, but is he clean? Maybe that's why Crane is looking elsewhere. If it's a Buck type, I don't think it's a long term hire. More a vet guy to see us through some dark days.

Yeah I just assumed Espada would be the guy. I skimmed the report but haven’t seen him named anywhere as being implicated. Just make him interim at least then hire an outside GM if you want to “change the culture” and all that. That’s going to start at the top anyways

I read the report in its entirety this morning, was actually less damning that I expected with the 1 year suspensions for Hinch & Luhnow.

Also thought it was interesting that this lasted basically 1 year.

Curious if we would have stopped after the September 17th memo what the penalties would have been.

Also, I wonder if the players said it was “distracting & not that effective” were just saying that, or covering their arse.

It’s also inexplicable, since they were cheating at home, how bad they were during the regular season, and so good during the postseason.
