I’m still on the “I would rather JV sign with Astros than anywhere else.” train.
But, I admit, that it is very unlikely.
Let’s explore other unlikely scenarios, similar to Kyle Schwarber attempting to bunt in a World Series game with 2 strikes and 2 outs:
December 18, 2002
Jeff Kent signs a 2yr/$20mil deal with the Astros. Prior to the signing, Astros management received commitment from Craig Biggio to move to CF. A surprising move coming off a major knee injury.
Which brings us to a more topical outlandish scenario:
Astros sign Carlos Correa.
- CC becomes everyday 3B.
- Bregman becomes CF.
Adding CC back into the infield and lineup makes the Astros undeniably the strongest offense and infield in baseball.
Would it work though?

I'd like a glass of what you're drinking.
But it's all good. I miss baseball, too.

Ok, here’s a different topic that is less controversial than the merits of Bregman moving to CF.
Of the big names this Hot Stove, who will sigh the craziest contract? And of the crazy contracts that will get signed, which player will come closest to living up to the value of the contract, and what player proves to sign the worst contract for their team?
Current candidates:
Abreu (Astros)
De Grom (Arlington)
Predictions:
Yankees
Judge 9 yr/$340mm
Correa 6 yr/$$195mm
Dodgers
Verlander 3+1, $140mm
Mets
Rodon 6 yr/$155mm
Padres
Turner 7 yr, $215mm
Worst contract for the team: Judge; honorable mention goes to De Grom
Best: Abreu

Left field is something of a question mark for the Astros, but the team might be looking to fill the position with a former Gold Glover. Houston has had some discussions with free agent Andrew Benintendi, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports.

I floated signing him to play 1B before Abreu joined. I don't hate the idea, but he's going to want too much money.

Hey assholes. I miss our evenings together. Looking forward to some news out of winter meeting this week
Seems like Contreras and Ben Nintendo are an either or situation. I don't see how both of them could be a functional fit. My own preference is Yordan DH and Ben Nintendo in LF.

Benintendi is a quality player
It would definitely depend on how long for how much

They are saying 4 years 54 mill. I'm good with that. Love his profile as it fits with the team but at some point we need a banger to go with Alvarez.

I would pay that for Benitendi
But I want my money back on Montero
