Yea a guy like Neris who failed in the 9th inning role earlier in his career probably gets it and just wants to do his job and make money.
Agreed, love Neris but wouldn’t go crazy with the years or money. Seemed like he flirted with self inflicted disaster a ton during the regular season. Would hate to have two nasty regressions to the mean on the staff with him and flaming pile of dogshit Montero

Don’t want to overpay Neris or Maton. Both were really good last year but Montero was good in ‘22. His 2022 season was probably more of an aberration than a guy like Neris had in ‘23 but the Astros overpaid Montero anyway. And that was wasted money. And Maton was mostly good last year and pretty bad in ‘22.
Relievers are probably the most volatile commodity from year to year. No sense in overpaying.

Dunno enough about the money to know where they are right now in relation to the luxury tax after this 6mil/yr deal with Caratini
I can't figure it out. Projections are all over the map. We won't know for sure until arbitration. I've seen anywhere from $219, $232, $236 or $238. Some people said the Caratini salary put us just over the $237 luxury tax.

Fangraphs has $237,396,032 but who knows
My guess is that Urquidy gets traded to create a tiny bit of room and maybe some of that gets used on a cheap bullpen arm.

Astros just traded for this guy from the Royals
Dylan Coleman
Was pretty good in 2022, was awful last year. Throws very had and walks a bunch of dudes.
Gave up 10 ER in April, then went down until July and gave up 8 ER in the last 18 outings of his season. Might have been some injury issues or he was just dogshit didn't really dive into why he missed months at a time at the big league level

That describes like 75% of the relievers in baseball to be fair

Victor Caratini's contract with the Astros will pay him $6 million in 2024 and $6 million in 2025, a person familiar with its structure said. The team is now over the first CBT threshold according to multiple outside approximations.
So we're over the tax now. The tax implications are based on payroll at seasons end but if we finish the season over the tax, compensation for Bregman signing somewhere else would drop from after the 2nd round to after the 4th round. Crane may decide to hover around the tax and either add to or shed payroll to get under at the trade deadline depending on where we're at.

Had a nightmare last night Maldy was back. Woke up this morning and took a deep breath and smiled

Also some news: I need that ID because my wallet got stolen on West 6th, but also because I’m staying in Texas to be the next sports culture reporter for

This was New Chandler less than 2 months ago
Imagine walking into the clubhouse trying to dig content from a guy you called a cheater who you don't respect.

If ownership allows that bitch into the same clubhouse as Altuve, they deserve to have their team taken away.
Disrespectful to Altuve, disrespectful to his the fans.

Diversity woman hire that is likely to focus on stuff off the field rather than on. I'm sure she'll talk about franchise diversity and equity commitments and an article or two about how Dusty was treated while bringing up Taubman and the Osuna stuff.
This is just as stupid as Mel Tucker bringing in that grifter that eventually accused him of sexual harassment.

I'd maybe rather have Moldy catching 120 games a year than Leah Vann on the beat. J/K
Her and Chandler are a brutal combo, but will give Chandler credit for actually being competent at his job and his reporting and asking the right questions. He just comes off poorly to me in some of his interactions on the socials

1 day on the job and Leah has already played the "I'm deactivating social media and I'm going to kill myself" card
Things are going well.

She's new Chandler at the Chron. LSU fans are familiar with her from covering LSU for BR newspaper
I find myself falling somewhere in between "don't be assholes to people on Twitter" and "bitch arse millennials whining about mental health and threatening suicide for attention before nuking your socials because people were mean"
